I know this is a newbie question, but I'm coming up short finding a good answer. What is the difference between the transmissions on the inline 6's and the V8's? Will the V8 transmission work on an inline 6?

The biggest one is length. The I6 is a longer, narrower engine. The clutch and transmission are further back. They use about 3" shorter tailshaft and adaptor with the I6 over the V8.

There are a few other differences like gearing.

To use a V8 trans on an I6 you need to relocate the transfer case back about 3", along with all the other stuff that goes with it, like driveshaft lengths.

The benifit of a V8 transmission is that you can put a V8 engine in.
Have no idea why you would try and use a V8 transmission with an I6, no real benifit there
