hey guys, today was so nice out I wanted to take my doors off and go for a little burn,,, tried to gently remove the pins in the hinges which quickly tuned to beating them with a hammer, managed to get one out but as for the other three they are a no go,, is there any trick to getting these bad boys out or am I stuck with unbolting the hinge when ever I want to doors off??,,, thanks

You didn't install a set of lift off hinges by any chance did you??
If not, the factory hinges do not come apart. As you have found out, the pins are pressed in perminatly. Looks like you will be investing into a set of lift off hinges now. I hear James duff is going to have a set out soon. Otherwise wild horses and wild child have 'em. At the least you will nead a hinge rebuild kit that runs for around $20 at Jeff bronco graveyard if you don't want to spend $200-$400 on a set of lift offs.

Stock ones don't come apart, I'm surprised you actually got a pin out. Best advice is invest in a set of lift-off hinges or unbolt the current ones.

Ya, it's not difficult unbolting them. At least mine weren't that bad. But if you want to go doorless often you might as well go with liftoff hinges. If you don't want to spend the $400 for the pre-manufactured ones you can make the originals into liftoffs quite easily. Just look at the Tech article on it.

If your doors line up good now, drill two 1/8" holes through each hinge into the doorpost. Take off the hinge at the doorpost and drill these holes with the next size bit. Insert two rollpins into the hinge and then when you go to put the doors back on just line up the pins with the holes in the post and bolt them back up.

I'd been doing that with car hoods for years, but hadn't thought to adapt it to Bronco hinges. duh! Thanks! ;D

one of my friends got all of the pins out, then put 1/4" bolts back in. then all he had to do was remove the 1/4" bolt and the door is off. half of the hinge is still on the body, but same with lift off's.

i thought of getting a set of roadster cutouts and cuting notches in the front for the body half to stick out of. wouldn't be as pretty, but you wouldn't have to re-allign it every tme.

I take some about 4 inch long carriage bolts, cut the heads off, take out a doorpost hinge bolt up top and one down below, thread in the cut carriage bolts, remove at other bolts in the door post, and slide the doors off on the carriage bolts. Works like a charm. Can do it one person (although a helper is sometimes nice).

Liftoff hinges are nice, but usually when I pull my doors, they're off until it gets crummy out anyway, so once a year on and off isn't bad.

I used to marker around the hinges on the door posts to know approximately where they go to line up next time, but now I pretty much wing it on memory.
