Two Engine oil dip sticks?

First time I have seen two dipsticks on an engine. One for the front "sump" and one for the back. Was this a factory option? Seen this on a bronco over the weekend.

The engine (and front timing cover) came from a front sump car.
The put a rear sump bronco pan on it that has a rear sump dipstick.

Not original.

Hmmm...that's a weird one.

If for some reason there were two separate oil reservoirs, like in a racing application, the second one would be a tank of some kind away from the engine.

I can't imagine why a conventional oil pan would be divided into two, unless it was some kind of crazy owner-built windage thing.

X2 I would say that it probably got a engine transplant since most 302's had the dipstick in the timing cover and broncos/vans had the dipstick in the oil pan. Or the timing cover was just swapped on and the PO just left the dipstick in.

I think he's just refering to the dual sump bronco pan. I cant even see any racing application that would have a divided pan as you would need 2 oil pickups as well and then you'd still run the risk of air getting into the oil system say when launching as all the oil moves to the rear and leaves the front sump dry.

If you really want to have fun you could do as many as 3 sticks...
Late model block with the drivers side dipstick through the block
Early Bronco pan with passenger side dipstick through the pan
Early front sump car timing cover with a stick through the cover.

All with factory parts and I bet all would read differently.
