I have seen the 73-75 lower steering shaft u-joint replacement. I am looking for a replacement for the 76? 1977 u-joint. Are they available, part number?

Thanks

Thanks, still looking. I did check with Nick at Northeast but he doesn't have it.
If you can get dimensions of the joint call valley balancing, they do all the farmers in the valley and have been around for decades and have TONS of stock

Ford only stocked a "lower shaft with joint" assembly.
They never had a service kit for it.
It was obsoleted after about 10 years, with a note:
"Not Serviced - must be improvised or procured locally"

The point was the lower u-joint, I realize the one I need is from the 1977 like in old timer's post. It looks like it is obsolete unless I find one somewhere to match up.

Neither is a stock look replacement for the ujoint, but appreciate the link for something functional.

Since you're trying to keep the stock look, have you considered taking the lower shaft to a shop that specializes in this type of stuff to see if they'd be able to simply replace the actual u-joint itself and retain the stock outers? One would have to look incredibly closely to see the outers were modified to replace the actual joint with a modern piece.

Exactly. He may not have access, like we do, to the specialty driveline shops that we have.

I would try an agriculture equipment supplier. They have them for all manner of power take off shafts. One of the local suppliers near me was able to measure one that I had and cross-reference to the one I needed.

Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to

dredgenot

After seeing this post he pulled the shaft he/she had put away a long time ago on a shelf and sent to me at no charge! I can't thank him/her enough for the awesome offer, reminds me of the good old days where we shipped out parts even before payment because this group was old school cool, trustworthy and scammers weren't out there yet. My desire to keep this as close to original was important. I wiill pay if forward and two huge thumbs up to dredgenot !

Fantastic story and result! Congratulations to both of you for keeping it going. We haven’t seen as much of the mercenary attitude here, as we’ve seen in many other vintage car groups over the years and decades. I love it.
And thanks for following up with the good news.
