Warning about after market OEM seat belt retractors

A number of vendors are selling aftermarket OEM style seat belts. The front lap belt with the automatic retractors will damage the paint on your doors and the body under the seat. This is because the retractor spring is WAY too strong. If you don't hold onto the outside belt when pushing the release button it will fly off and hit the door and body. The vendor's answer to this was to switch to a non-retractable belt or install clear plastic sheeting on the areas impacted.
I was able to back off the spring two turns which really helped a lot. IMG_2480.JPG IMG_2481.JPG

The originals did this as well. I will bet every Bronco ever made has a population of those chips on both doors. It's really difficult to get passengers to remember to hold the end when pushing the button. Paint protective film is the only way to resolve this, but it has to go on a pretty broad area to be 100 percent effective.
