Got my carburetor back from American Carburetor and it looks awesome. Went to install it on my engine and everything is great then I went to put the fuel filter on and THIS happened. I’m guessing I am going to have to replace the top of my carburetor now because this is for sure going to leak. What did I do wrong? Did I over tighten the fuel filter or what????

Hi, it looks like it is in too far, and the hex part is hitting the top of the carb.
Some carbs use an adapter before the filter.
Good luck

I’m hoping i can call the guys who reworked the carburetor and they can hook me up with a new top for the carburetor but we will see! I like the thought of trying to braze it if y’all think it will hold!!

That would be awesome Chuck. Forgive me for my ingnorance but mine is a 1100 Autolite original carb so is that a 2 bbl? I would be glad to send you an already paid box to send it back to me. I will let you know what they say at American Carburetors.

yeah otherwise you could mix up some JB weld and force it in to the crack then back out the filter and squeeze the crack together so it bonds....
just an idea...others can chime in on this too... I still think brazing it would be stronger

I'd be real hesitant to try repairing that part. Fuel leaks can get ugly fast. not worth the risk...

x100. I would trash the top and replace it. You should be able to pick up a parts carb on ebay pretty reasonably. A continuous stream of fuel all over the engine if and when the repair fails is the last thing you want.

I would also verify that you have the correct fuel filter. IIRC there are at least 2 variants of that style filter. I think one is pipe thread(tapered) and the other is straight thread and requires a gasket. My memory is a little fuzzy today, long day.

Your carb is a 1bbl. Parts won't interchange.

I didn't look at the pic good enough and read the discription of what you have
I see you have a six. I have a couple of 2 bbl off v8s. I will look and see if I might have a one bbl in my boxers o parts

Thanks Chuck!! I agree with the repairing part ! I have seen too many broncos go up in flames and I don’t want mine to be one of them!!

Thanks for looking Chuck. I’m sure the people at American Carburetor will have one I just don’t want to know how much of a mistake I have made. Gonna cost me just don’t know how much. We shall see.
