zman- where'd ya do the fishing?

My Dad and I used to hit the N. Fork of the Stilly a lot, Pilchuk creek a LOT. Darrington, Arlington, Monte Cristo and whatever the Loop is called now. Not a house around back then. Nothing but Steelie's all winter in the miserable rain and fog... lol

My Dad bought his Bronco in '69. Called a few clubs about double carden's, maintenance and if you could run w/o them. That's about the only time he contacted any clubs. All we did was fish. :)

I would guess out off the Skagit river we lived right next to it. He bought the Bronco in 72 and its a 69 I was born in 71, I remember going on runs and it was always the broncos against the jeeps and fjs, I also remember it sitting in the garage just about my hole child hood with a blown motor, trani, and front end they definitely used them.

Sounds like fun. My Dad was not a gear head. Did all his own repairs out of necessity but only then. He baby'd it like a real baby. Our only family car for about 3 years. Became a "2-car family" 3 yrs later as he felt he was putting too many miles on the Bronco.

For decades after he sold it in '85 for a POS GMC S15 (S-10 p/u) he constantly said he shouldn't have sold it... DUH! :) I bought mine in' '76.

nice yea my dad wasnt much of a mechanic, but he never get rid of anything, he has the same toyota truck for the last 35 years. he gives me crap for how many rigs I go through;D. I got back from AK one year and told him I was going to buy one or sell me his, so with some arm twisting he sold it to me and the work began;D

Here's a pic from 1982. 6K+ mile, 6+ week trip. Only put the Austin Healey wheeled (13" instead of 8") tent trailer on it's side once. :)

Now that is super cool and what a great great history lesson. Thanks for posting that.

My 71 bronco came from Coweta Ok area (SE of Tulsa) and it still had 2 dash plaques on it from some off road events. I internet dug all I could on them, if anyone knows more about those events I 'd love to hear about it.

Or any previous owner history for that fact. I have the Po and the PPO names.

7th Annual FWD-FWD (FT Worth Dallas Four Wheel Drive Club)
May 27-31 1999, Clayton Ok, High Country Trail Club.

October Trail fest SWF WDA (South West Four Wheel Drive Club) Fall Quarterly Clayton Oklahoma.

Don't remember much other than I was there. Didn't attend any of the festivities other than trail riding. they did the trail rides as part of their meetings. Was actually my first wheeling outing in OK.

I have run the shoestring and the nachees trail in dune buggies , jeeps, and on a Yamaha TT500. I was 14 when I DROVE A JEEP FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! My dad always started on the Green Water side. I still have not taken my 74 Bronco over them.

Great thread, enjoying all the photos/history.

I got my hands on a bronco from WA with two fender stickers of the off-road club it came from, "Oh-No 4-Wheelers". They were based out of Goldendale, WA. I will try to post pictures of the logo soon. anybody heard of them?

Digging the 70-80s off-road club culture and would be thrilled to locate a photo of my bronco from "back in the day". Apparently this club participated in those "play-days" as well.

I would love to get my hands on some PNW4WDA or vintage WA 4x4 club memorabilia.

I have a few of the club stickers left

I actually am planning to make some tribute stickers to these long gone clubs. The stickers would be small, 2 x 3" or so.

If any of you have artwork or clear pictures of these old club stickers or placards please send them to me or post here

Well savage, we need to get you over here and we can go. :) Several other EB"s from here would enjoy and outing and meet some new to us Bronco owners.

The trail is wider now because of idiots who brought chainsaws in to widen the trail so they could fit. Still a fun trip and challenging with snow and ice for sure!

I've never done it in the winter. It would be cold in the 74 with no doors or top;D. My rigs that I use in the winter are way to big for those trails, even with the wider trail, if theses rigs, that I use in the winter would fit, then they real butchered the trail!!!!! It's been 15 plus years since I've been on the nachees and that was on my TT500!

Thanks for everyone that's sharing old photos of the Broncos and clubs!

I have noticed that other off-road clubs have been mentioned here, and not to hijack the thread at all, but does anyone there remember the Opir Gopher Jeep Club?

One of my favorite Broncos came from California probably 15 years or more ago and it had a large cast aluminum seal or badge on the right fender. When the owner and I finally worked out a deal, he said the Ophir Gopher badge he was keeping for a souvenir! One of the early photos after I purchased it, shows where it was and there's still dash plaques of events on the glove box. I remember seeing the badges on the fenders of rigs in the pages of magazines back in the day, and I was just wondering if anyone had more info or even an aluminum fender badge of the "Ophir Gopher Jeep Club".
