Every inch taller tires you put on it makes it that much less likely you will drive it, the less convenient it is to get in the more likely you will drive something else.

Both! Yes its a compromise between EVERYTHING, but I can drive 70mph with one hand on the wheel and wheel on the "easier" black trails... Every year it gets a new PA inspection sticker.

I had mine registered in PA for awhile, and although the state inspections are sort of restrictive, you can still do a lot to a vehicle and still be in spec. I had mine on 35s and a 3in susp lift and just the regular flares everyone uses and I wasn't even close to bumper height limit issues and such. The only time I had a problem with inspection was when I forgot to put the hard doors back on. They called me up and said hey can you bring the doors by and slap them on so we can put a sticker on it? I put doors in my F150 and drove them there and dropped them on the removable door hinges and they put sticker on while I did it. Drove it home and took doors off. Other times it passed without doors. That is the one PA reg that is a grey area.

The biggest gig that will get you hemmed up in PA is tires out past the flares, but I had no trouble keeping aggressive 35x12.50 15s tucked under the standard street legal WH flares with OEM width D44 and 9in.

Keep in street and trails. There isn't enough good off-roading areas in PA/MD to make an offroad only vehicle worth it.

We've built 2 Baja racers that are street legal here in CA. A lot depends on the type of trail use you want, but why not have both if you can?

I had a street legal/mild wheeler. I wanted to link it and put ton's under it. I actually bought one already built and sold my street legal bronco. I am now wanting to make the crawler more street friendly to enjoy all summer, 40 stickys on a linked rig is fun, just don't have a lot of street manners. you can always run tons or built 44/9",37's and keep the rest fairly mild with stock type suspension that will still drive nicely and wheel some petty fun trails. I say to find a happy medium and enjoy both worlds!!

street legal but built with selectable lockers, DOT beadlocks and body armor so you can drive it everyday too.

Look up Todd Foss....he drives from Portland, ME, wheels some of the nastiest trails in the country and drives back home. In 3 years he put 110,000 miles on his daily driver/black-red trail truck. It can be done

My opinion is build it to drive to the trails, drive on the trails, drive it home from the trails.

The Pirate types tend to think trailer it is the only real way, but trails are often separated by sections of road and it is easier to just drive between them.

totally agree.. you can build it for both.. :)
