We have a fleet of trailers at work. So much so that there is a guy that his primary job is to keep the trailers maintained. Everything from a little 600# enclosed with a 2000# GVW all the way up to triple axle 25,999# rated goosenecks. He would go through regular trailer tires (tried several brands but usually Goodyears) like a kid going through candy on Halloween night. One of the new trailers came in with LT truck tires. They worked great. No complaints (and the drivers are a bunch of whiney princesses). The tires last much longer. So good that they started putting them on more trailers. Everything has been positive. Started doing this about 3 years ago. And they are nothing special highway LT tires.
The thing is 15" LT tires are not that common. We are using mostly 16". That can be a sticky point.
Same here. Had 3 goodyears explode/entire tread come off.
Switched to a slightly higher load range Maxxis and one of those
let loose not that long after they were new (could have been tire
valve first, as that was missing, but not sure if it got ripped off
when tire came apart). The other Maxxis (tandem) did hold up well, over
load on that side at least (didn't know tire went down for many miles)
Anyway decided to try LT's and I'll never go back to trailer tires if
I can help it. Seem so much better built, heavier for the same size.
Sometimes rated a bit less on load, but are designed for steering axle,
so easily much higher on non steering axle.
