I may be going to a small junkyard / graveyard this weekend. What year and model should I be looking for if I am looking for a used Steering Box? Thanks

I'd suggest this route

Its called the 4x4x2 conversion.

Scout II boxes can be made to work, but they put the arm in front, or you can have different internals put in so it turns the right way.

Nissan has some boxes that will work. Use the search button and you can look over those options.

And if you get really lucky stock EB is the easiest to install.

I was just at the the junk yard yesterday trying to make this box. So the 4x4 you want is a 76-79 f150 4x4 or 78-79 bronco. Then the 4x2 box is in many years and models just find a f150 from the 80's and you have the correct box it sits towards the front of engine bay on inside. I found many if these 4x2 boxes but still looking for the 4x4 box.

I pulled one out of a 79 Bronco and worm and rack out of a econoline van. It's big heavy duty unit but seems to be the hot setup. I heard that stearing box out of a Toyota IFS can be used but can not verify it. There seems to be a zillion of them in the yards these days. They are a little lighter but the one in my Yota cranks the 31X10.5s arount nicely. Might be worth looking in to. I'm thinking about changing plans on my project.

IFS Toy steer box worked great for me. I mounted it so the pitman arm was in the same spot as stock, since I am not lifted. If you need a drop arm one for an FJ40 is available. Drives like a car w/31's. I added an 1/2" plate to get the clearance I wanted from the rad, and then a reinforcing plate on the inside.

It's true, Nissan boxes do work.
'01½ to '04 are Delphi boxes so the inlet is an american 3/8" inverted female fitting (return appears to still be metric so get that off the donor). The boxes off the 4WD chassis (they built 2WD trucks with a 4WD chassis, look for torsion bars in the front, not coils) have the biggest sector shaft I have seen on a light truck. Xterra and Frontier. But trucks going back to '86 will work as well, just not the '96 and newer Pathfinder. 2WD also works but the sector shaft is smaller but still strong. The bottom 2 holes line up with only a shave from a ½" drill bit.
