Why won't my seats fit in my bronco?

I recently got some original seats for my 68 I wanted these opposed to newer ones as I am trying to keep it more original, issue is when I took out the jankity ford comet seats someone put in at some point in time, I went to put the original seats in that I got this week and none of the holes (2 sets from the comet seats and the original factory seats. The new seat (drivers side) has the 4 brackets on the bottom but in essence they are not wide enough nor long enough to fit into any hole essentially I can get the back two in place and that is about it. Am I missing a bracket somewhere? Are there any specs or pics on line?

thanks

When you say "original seats for my 68" are they out of a 68? I ask becuase I'm almost positive they changes the mounting holes after the bench front seat was no longet available. I say this becaue the holes in my 74 will not lineup to the bench seat I bought a few months back. Some of the holes line up but not all.

I'm sure someone knows more that me on this subject.

Well that would make sense. Now the really good question since you just brought it up is I have a bench seat, but there are no holes anywhere in the back. I am pretty new to this but my new guess is that the bench is more than likely the original fron seat? If so than that would explain a whole lot as to why the back has no holes and why the front buckets I just got won't work. Time to drill.

My '66 was also a bench seat with no back seat. The buckets were mandatory when you ordered a back seat so passengers could get back there. Let me know if you decide to sell your bench seat, I'd be interested. Although shipping might be a deal breaker.

Just curious, what does your vin start with? U15, U14 or U13?

disregard the remark about the bench being the front seat it is clearly the back seat as it is too small to be a front seat

I always say, the best time to learn a TIG is the first time you have to weld something while laying under it.

Yes! I want to learn TIG, just cant justify the expense for as often as I would use it though. I'd rather get burnt once in a while and buy guns instead ;D

well that took me literally all day. Bought some 1x1 steel tube and drilled holes to fit the existing holes then drilled holes to fit brackets in drivers seat. Got the drivers seat in, ood news is I sit an inch taller then I used to (I am 6 foot so it really doesnt matter) bad news is the damn seat wont adjust to move it back, looks like tomorrow I will be taking a sledge hammer and more wd-40 and moving the seat back permanently:)

Chad if I get a second I will bring over your parts I got but we will see how the day goes.

I picked up one of the 3 in 1 China mart specials, mainly for the plasma, I think it ran $400 bucks, I though I would just learn the TIG but mainly use it for the plasma, after working with the TIG, I use it for almost everything, so long as it is not a huge job, the thing I love about it, is there is no guess work on the penetration and no slag. Plus laying a really clean weld is simple. I now trust my TIG welds so much more than my MIG skills. I am very happy that I picked it up, and am going to upgrade soon so I can start doing aluminum stuff. If I had to sell a unit, the MIG would be out the door tomorrow, I could not live without my TIG.

Pretty convincing...guess I'll have to start shopping around for a TIG.

My seat doesn't move either, to crusty underneath I think.

A word of advice if you do, I did not know much about TIG when I bought mine and did not really care about it, so I was just really shopping price and plasma. Mine was digital, which I like but it did not have a foot peddle. To convert mine over to a foot peddle was expensive, where there was other units near the same price that where already wired for a peddle. If I did it over I would have got a unit with a foot peddle, they are not a necessity but they do make the control over the torch very precise. The only other thing, is that the cheap china-mart units don't do Aluminum, there are some guys that figured out a processes to do Aluminum with them, but it is pretty involved.
