When installing a new gasket do I need to put anything else on the frame/gasket for sealing it? Silicone, that black goopy tar stuff?

Just the gasket, never had any issues with air or rain leakage.

Lots of dish soap to limit the cursing during install. If you can remove the frame from the Bronco, it will make the install easier BTW. The windshield frame that is...

Not to hijack this thread but who has the best seal? My windshield is cracked and has 2 bb gun hits on it so might replace over the winter.

When I replaced the original gasket back 20 plus years ago, the one I got seemed to small and didn't fill the frame well. It leaked and I had to use goo to keep the water out.

I got the one I am using from another member here so I don't know where it came from. I do know it was made in the USA. I put it around the glass last night and it was a bit big so I was glad for that so that it will squish into the opening rather than just lay there.

IIRC the glass is actually bigger than the opening. It sits in front of the sealing lip when in the seal. The back groove of the seal wraps around the windshield frame and holds it in place.

I don't know if this is normal but ever since I replaced my gasket and windshield it has leaked BAD between the glass and gasket. I wish I had put some sort of sealer in the gasket before I wrapped it around the glass.

Mine went in really easy last night. Used the soap & a cord to put in the gasket groove and then pulled it to seat into the windshield frame.

I got mine from Tom's recently. Got their rope and helper tool as well. No sealer. Was super simple with an extra set of hands.

IT's been about 10+ years since I did 3 or 4 of them almost at one time.
One of the Gaskets sucked . It had round corners instead of square . It leaked bad. SO WE pull the round out & there them away & orderd from another vender . Tom's I believe. had a good one but I don't really remember .
..........
... & Another tip I'll give on installing lube.. I prefer to use GO-JO. It's great lube & Cleans up afterwards well . & I prefer a 1/4 Nylon rope ..the 1/8 IS TOO SMALL & If you have to pull hard 1/8 will cut your gasket .
Hope those tips will help someone .
