Would this intake be advantageous?

I have a 351 lightning lower intake. Would this be better than the explorer upper intake? I usually try and use stock stuff. But I don’t know much about these. Running a 1 inch body lift if that makes a difference.

Maybe it’s a cobra intake?

It doesn’t have a brand so I have no clue where to start. If you’re running something like this lmk about it.

The GT40, Cobra, and Explorer intakes are functionally identical. The tubular GT40 is a bit lighter and looks cooler, the cast intakes can be ported to improve flow.
BTW the brand is Ford, that's the upper that came with the Lightning lower.

FYI if you don't like that intake and are deciding to sell it they bring big money.

Well I’m assuming it’s gone as he has seen my message and not responded.

That’s a Lightning upper. They work pretty well for low and midrange power. I’ve been running one on my 351W (now a 408W) for several years now. Pulls hard from idle to about 4500 rpm on the 408. The tb opening on them pairs well with a 70mm tb (I opened mine up to 75mm).

The tubular intake was the original. Being multi-piece that needs to be assembled, it is the most expensive to make. Ford did low grade production cars that way, I had a 1.9 in an Escort wagon that had an intake very much the same.

But to get manufacturing costs down they came up with the all cast version. While it doesn't look as pretty, flow wise it is the same. And it was mass produced. I'm betting that it took $50 off the manufacturing costs for that intake. Then figure the million or so they made between the Cobra and Explorer, they made a lot more profit with no loss in function.

Next came (after the end of the pushrod 5.0) the plastic intakes. Better flow, better thermal properties, lighter weight. Production gets interesting as it is a multi piece intake that is glued/welded together.

Ya I tried to buy it only because I already have the lightning lower but I never received a response from the guy. My big question is, is it any taller?

I’m going to be using the econoline body lift because it’s a little less than a one inch. I wish I didn’t have to have a body lift at all. But it does make a lot of mods easier. Also I’m not changing the hood. I like the og hood. I’m even leaving the latch on for the windshield.

It’s not taller, but the plenum hangs down a little lower. It’s probably fine with stock valve covers, but I had to use a 1/2” spacer to clear my taller FMS vc’s. Also, they make a little more intake noise than the Explorer or Cobra uppers due to the thinner material. I like it, but some may prefer a quieter engine.
