I played with gear pattern until I came up with these pics. Here's the drive side. Same in two different places.

So now I guess it's time to slap in in the housing and put some shafts in it.

And I'll probably leave the table for the wife to clean up...

So I pulled this thing out the other day to fix a leak. The silicone had blown out at the bottom. Gears looked great, but I forgot to get pics. I was preoccupied with the oil that ran everywhere but in the drain pan.....

fun times.

I have straightened dad's housing and one other. And I've been thinking about an 8.8 E-locker with 9" ends/shafts. The Grizzly is REALLY aggressive for on road use where 90% of my miles are. Wears track bar bushings like JB falls down!

Just do the entire 8.8. Everyone diss’s the c clips but if you start with a 2015 or newer you get huge wheel bearings and 34 spline axles. They are the new 9” only better IMO. Moser makes axles for them and if you’re running 17” wheels you can keep the fantastic disc brakes. Looking at using one for my next build.

As for the c clips I’ve never had one fail. The axle bearing is the same one used on semi float d60’s and GM 9.5” 14 bolt in 3/4 ton trucks and vans, they hold up better and you get a bigger axle than anything for a 9”.

I get your point though, you can use your 31 spline axles and wheel bearings that you currently have.

Interesting. I thought the 8.8 rear went away around 2010 or so. What kind of 2015 vehicle am I looking for that's still got a solid rear axle? (I expect my JY to have a 50% off sale on July 4....NEXT WEEK!!)

EDIT: Doing a little research reveals Ford started making something called the Super 8.8 which is what Yeller is describing above. Too bad these things are kept in the special pricing part of my local JY.... Those parts never go on sale. They have a set price and that's what you'll pay if you want it.
