Can't sleep. Pick up my paint tomorrow:cool: Its like I'm 5 years old on Christmas Eve. Heading into my dad's shop to use the hoist first thing in the morning. Tub's getting lifted off and undercoated, engine compartments getting painted. Decided to go with a '02 Ford Color called "Dark Shadow Grey". Will be accented by black rockski's, quarter guards and grill. Also want to add an orange pinstripe that turns into flames like what came on '02 Harley f-150's but a little more suttle.

Picked up another hood. This one's as close to perfect as an original hood gets. 1 Small ding where the water nozzle is and another dime size in the middle of the hood. Back from the blasters with zero rust and now primered. Also picked up a '66 windshield frame with the hood latch on it. I'm going to swap it over to mine. Never had a working fold down windshield on any of my previous trucks. Hope I use it.

Pic is the actual color and a general idea of what pinstripe I'm talking about. Won't stand out that much, will just be two thin lines.

Well getting back on the wagon here. Life got in the way this year. Wife's got a new job and we have a nanny now so........Bronco's back on the priority list.

Pretty happy with myself today. Picked up the following;

Be Cool Aluminum Radiator
Hedman Ceramic Headers
Electric Fan
Stainless Flowmasters
Grant Leather steering wheel
Grant anti theft adapter
Wildhorses diff guard
A center console

For $575. Pretty stoked. I was days away from ordering a radiator at $500 U.S. About time I ran into a guy that didn't think his bronco stuff was made of pure gold. Gearing up for two weeks off work in November gonna hit this hard again.

Started two weeks holidays today. Getting on the rest of the sanding and seam sealing tomorrow, hopefully I'll have some paint flying by Friday.

Just found this build, that bumper you have might be the best bumper I've ever seen for an EB. I think you've inspired me to do the same with my Xterra bumper. What did you use to cut off the brush guard? Sawzall? Cutoff wheel? GREAT build! Here's a pic of my bumper that I'm thinking of chopping.

Yah chop 'er if you like it. I used a sawzall. The only one I've ever liked is the hansen one and they don't make it anymore. I think Tasker had it on his orange truck.

Hopefully the paint guys come out of the woodwork for me.

This is my first time painting a vehicle.

So here's the start of two weeks holidays. Goal is to have the Bronco painted at the end of it. Haven't touched the bronco for 55 weeks!

Gonna spen the next couple days getting ready for paint. Replaced a 3" square of metal on the cowl. Did some significant work to smooth out under the ds rear tail light.

So I'm painting with PPG Omni. Single stage acrylic enamel. It is a metallic color. Primer was ppg epoxy.

Got the tub back off the frame for hopefully the last time today (think this is the fourth time I've taken it off). This way I can paint the engine bay.

Now that I have it off I'm considering tossing all the body parts on and painting the whole thing off the frame. Way less work masking. Then take it all apart, put the tub back on the frame and then re-assemble. What do you guys think about this process?

Also what's the best way to paint the windshield hinge? I'm thinking, laying it down, shoot a couple coats and then the next day fold it up and carry on. Not sure what works best.

Back to sanding, want to shoot the final primer tomorrow.

*Edit* Just read a bunch of build threads. Should I shoot a high build primer over the epoxy before color? Do I need to or can I just hit the epoxy with 400 grit and shoot color?

So got into wet sanding the epoxy today. Went real well. Then shot the 2K high build primer on and all my work kinda went for a shit. Didn't go on to smooth. Started out great and then I realized that I didn't stir up the actual tin of primer well enough and it was real thick at the bottom. Mixed with some extra reducer but went on kinda rough. Oh well these ar ethe joys of body work I guess.

Did the tub and the doors. I'll do the hood, fenders and tailgate later. There's just not enough room around the garage to do it all at once.

More wet sanding tomorrow, Hopefully by the afternoon I'll have some paint on the engine bay and door jams.

Any thoughts on the windshield hinge question above?

I would do what you wrote above for the hinge. Paint just the area you don't see with it up. Then when you do the rest of the tub fold the windsheild up and paint. Most likely you won't fold the windsheild down when the Bronco is done so leave it up. Less chance of the paint chipping around the hinge.

What kind of 2k primer are you using? Most 2ks are forgiving and sand really well. If it went on rough and had alot of "smoke" left in the finish you should be able to wet sand it out. If I did aolt of bodywork on a tub I would lay it down heavy knowing I would be blocking the hell out of it. Basically, the more sanding the better.

I'm using the Omni SV Hi Build 2K Primer Surfacer MP282.

My paint is the Omni MAE Acrylic Enamel. The tech page states that I can add a fish eye eliminator (MX194). Its not on the tech page but on the product info page on PPG`s website they say "MAE may also be sprayed with the addition of MX201 Gloss Enhancer to improve gloss normally associated with clearcoating in one easy step."

Would you guys recommend using either product? Just a reminder I am spraying a metallic color.

The fisheye elimnator is a bandaid for a contamination problem. Drain your compressor of all water and get a good filter. The gloss enhancer can't hurt anything but I've never used it??? AE will need all the gloss enhancing it can get:)

Okay sounds good, I've been draining my compressor and both filters ( I have a wall mounted one and a small one right before my regulator on my gun) daily while spraying right now. I'll probably go pick up the gloss enhancer.

I have a couple questions about my gun. I went to my local tool store with full intentions on buying a better gun. I have this one currently;

http://www.kmstools.com/bynford-hvlp-spray-gun-with-regulator-163

I went down there to buy this gun;

http://www.kmstools.com/devilbiss-finishline-hvlp-spray-gun-258

The guy at the store basically talked me out of it saying it wouldn't do anything that my current gun won't do and he didn't want to see me throw my money away. So I walked but I'm second guessing myself and its on sale for $40 off right now. Is this gun going to be $190 well spent? I can't afford much more for a gun right now so it's either buy this one or stick with what I got already. Thoughts?
