That Devilbis gun will outspray the $40 gun hands down. Cheap spray guns won't atomize the paint as good as a higher dollar gun. Buy it, use it, and if you don't like it then return it. I've demo'd lots of guns before buying.
I own one Devilbis, a GTI but like spraying with my SATA's but they are $$$$.

Picked up that devilbis gun. Completely ready for paint now! Everything but the tailgate anyways, not worrying about that right now. Everything is wet sanded and ready! Sprayed off everything and the whole garage tonight. Gonna shoot paint first thing tomorrow!;D

That's the paint gun I'm using and I think it's doing a pretty good job. My media blaster has that gun also and said that he's sprayed some high dollar paint jobs with it. It's not a $600 SATA, but I think it's a good one for us paint noobies...

I use a Sata Jet 2000 HVLP with a 1.3 head and needle. You should get a good finish with the Devilbiss. I would use the 1.3 head to break it up better, or you can over reduce it a little to help. I would stay away from the fish eye eliminator because it will tend to leave an orange peel job. Just take your time and pay attention to your spray pattern overlap. Good luck and can't wait to see some pics painted.

So far so good. Got the underside of the hood, inside of fenders, inside of doors, inside of the grill, engine bay, windshield frame and door jams all painted today. Relieved to see these pics as this color looks very very dark in my garage. Looks closer to what I was wanting in the pics. Just need to round up a couple buddies to come over tonight before hockey and help mount some panels. Pretty happy kid!

Paints done!

Went pretty well I think. Brushed the front ds fender with my shirt sleeve which pissed me off and got two small drops of condensation out of my respirator on the other fender.

Wasn't that big of a deal spraying a metallic. Did see the tiger stripes forming on the first coat on the ps door so the next two I fanned it on a bit and got rid of them. Resulted in a little bit of orange peel but nothing major, it'll wet sand out easy. No runs or sags so that's good.

Could have spent a little more time blocking the doors but all in all I'm very happy. Gonna be fun tossing this thing back together now.

Any advice on how long to wait before getting the interior line-x'd? I've heard to wait a month cause the heat from the line-X application can screw up new paint. I guess i'll just talk to the line-x guy about it but if anone has 2 cents toss it in.

Thanks very much to Allenfahey and the rest of the board for your help. I defiantly would not of ended up with this as a finished product without you.

It looks like you didn't paint the inside of the tub. You just have a little overspray in there? I would sand off the paint and have it Linex'd. I've painted trucks before then right away were sent to spray in bedliner companies to repair the bedliner. Those jobs were urethane and baked in a booth though.
Are you going above the 1/4's with it? If so I would wait a while since AE takes longer to cure than a urethane.

Nope didn't spray the floor. Just the inside of the firewall down to the front floor panel line. Sprayed the bed rails all around as I don't want liner over the rails. These are basically the lines I'm going with except only half way up the firewall.

Tub's back on for the last time. I will spend some more time on the doors one day. They need to be blocked, but I just want to drive this thing. He's some poser pics I took when I took it out to clean the garage.

Wetsanded, cut and polished today. Scuffing up your new paint is a little nerve racking. Got 1/2 the truck wet sanded and then tried out the cutting and polishing on the ds rear quarter. Turned out great! I'll have the rest of it done tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get the tunnel cover finished as well.

Also ordered 2 Gallons of Al's Liner for the tub yesterday. Going to do rock skis, quarter guards and bumpers with it as well.

Okay sounds good, I've been draining my compressor and both filters ( I have a wall mounted one and a small one right before my regulator on my gun) daily while spraying right now. I'll probably go pick up the gloss enhancer.

I have a couple questions about my gun. I went to my local tool store with full intentions on buying a better gun. I have this one currently;

http://www.kmstools.com/bynford-hvlp-spray-gun-with-regulator-163

I went down there to buy this gun;

http://www.kmstools.com/devilbiss-finishline-hvlp-spray-gun-258

The guy at the store basically talked me out of it saying it wouldn't do anything that my current gun won't do and he didn't want to see me throw my money away. So I walked but I'm second guessing myself and its on sale for $40 off right now. Is this gun going to be $190 well spent? I can't afford much more for a gun right now so it's either buy this one or stick with what I got already. Thoughts?

IF YOU EVER SPRAY WITH A SATA JET YOU MAY NEVER SPRAY WITH ANOTHER GUN

The grill is primer right now. It will be the stock argent color.

Got my Al's Liner and my JB Fab twin stick this week. Hopefully I can get the trans cover finished up now and get that liner sprayed after the holidays.

just wondering, what things did you have to buy to get the conversion to work and how much did it cost if it doesn't bother you.

I bought a D44 out of a 78/79 bronco for $150. Used everything off of that and then bought new calipers, pads, rotors. I did it a long time ago so I can't remember what it all cost. Maybe $300 when it was all said and done.

Been a while haven't got a ton done. Sprayed the tub with the Al's Liner. Tinted it to the color of the truck. Turned out pretty good. It isn't very user friendly. I had to order a third gallon. first two just didn't cover very well. instructions say you only have 20 mins to spray after you mix. They're not lying. You gotta be fast. All said and done its still half the cost of line-x and final results look good IMO. Painted and installed bc rock skis and wild horses quarter guards and fender flares. Installed my jb fab twin sticks and did the shift rail mod on the np205. Painted the grill inset the stock argent silver. Also finished the trans tunnel cover, sprayed that with liner, just have to cut a hole for the twin sticks and install it now.

Time to start working on the dash.
