series of pics, starting w/ engine compartment-looks pretty good, although i ran out of room, so i had to move my trans cooler over a little(down road I will reloacate so cold air intake doesnt have to sit so low, also bcb tank hung, the darn hard line 1/2 job, i just could get a drill to tap or for that matter a tap in the engine compartment ran 1/2 hard and efi line to engine, last but not least the EEc hanging around, i will get to it this week....i think my engine idle is caused by oil cap, I dont have right oil cap on(ordered right one) and i think i might be sucking air in thru there? My hands are a work of art....bloddy knuckles, grime, cracked skin and scratches....the neighbors are impressed....Ty for everyone's help, especially Viperwolf...no I'm not up and running completly, she cranks right over and ran rough, soon as I get right oil cap then I will check it again(ps. I dont see missing caps on upper)

Congrats! That's always a good feeling. Took my Toyota EFI conversion for its first road test today. Now I can get back to work on my Bronco project.

Surging idle? Sure sounds like a vacuum leak.
The Explorer upper has many vacuum lines underneath, double check.

Looks better than my junk. I see your IAC is upside down. Could be a reason for erratic idle.

yep was worried about that, i bought a new 96'version and didnt have correct fitting, ordered one from ryan on thursday, so i will be able to rub iab in right direction...the one i have gets in way of TB...but why would that screw up idle, isnt it just a plunger that opens between two chambers/

Vacuum on the wrong side of the valve could affect the valve position.

ahhh, never thought of that VW...so the vacum could pull the plunger?

That's what I'm thinking. I don't know for a fact that it happens because I've never tried it but I think it could. Might save you some time looking for a non-existant vac leak.

I spent a lot of time looking for a surging idle. Once I soldered the 10-pin connections it went away. I also have had trouble with the manifold air temperature sensor from time to time. Guess the aftermarket parts don't last as long as FoMoCo.

any luck on the surging? I had the same thing first time I fired up... turned out I forgot to plug one of the ports on the upper. Looking back, I can't believe I didn't notice the loud sucking sound coming from the intake area.

nope, ran out of time, killing me actually cause i want to drive her....but i know my oil cap is not locking close(waiting for new one) and I will switch my iab, funny Dan i thought of you when i surged, i remember your thread-read it like 5 times...seriously did ...i didnt hear sucking sound, very limited space behind rear of upper-literally 2 inches from fire wall, i have a mirror on a stick but need to get light back there...unfortunelty my garage sits under my daughters bedroom, 6/4 and given my shortys and magnaflow, forget it, wife already pissed off about the time i spent with my other luv:p

You can also try unplugging the IAB... it should run without it. I was really confused about this at first.. some people say it will run without IAB and some people say it wont. Provided everything else is in order - I think it will. If you unplug it and your surging goes away, could be the problem.

Also - for vacuum leak, try the old starter fluid trick or a propane torch to see if the RPMs increase when spraying something near the intake.

10 pin connectors are a part of the original mustang wiring system. If you are using aftermarket harness you wont have them.

Yes I have had at least one bad sensor right out of the box. In fact over the years its happened quite a few times. It really isn't uncommon to get a bad sensor. They do not make them very well.

Yes the engine will usually run pretty well with out the IAB. Especially if it is hot. But a bad one can affect idle quality. Infact almost anything can effect idle quality. :) Corroded connections or just connections with higher than normal resistance will make the computer think something else is happening.

As far as vacuum goes there isn't a lot to check on a Mustang EFI. Once you decide its not vacuum its probably electrical and idle is usually the hardest to fix.

A bad IAB will be hard to keep idling when its cold. It will run fine off idle, accelerate well etc. It will sometimes idle pretty good when the engine is HOT.

Ty 00gryhed, no the harness is an rjm, and the iab on now is used, but i have new one, waiting for ryans correct adapter.....i stll think its the oil cap, its not the right one and does not seal, would that cause surging idle?

The install looks great, can't believe how fast you got it done.
As far as the idle, double check your timing, mine was 30 degrees off. Still don't know how I managed that%)

TY -I was a man obsessed, so u can understand i feel like i have 1 day left till freedm, I mean all that work, long hours (mostly at night after kids in bed)sore back, and hands and my bronco is just sitting in garage!!! I havent drove it 13 days!
funny earlier i was discussing with viperwolf about my tdc, when i started swap i didnt end it in tdc....so when before installed the efi dizzy, i bumped the engine till i found tdc, 0 on the HB, stabbed the dizzy back in and the rotor pointed on 1 (in cap), set up the wires, havent set timing yet but i have feeling given my engine's components(my builder syas 12degrees btdc is idle for my engine) vs rjm's 10 degrees... keep u all up....wish me luck this week!;D
