If someone is “hunting” for a parked collector car, there is little you can do if they are smart thieves. A flatbed and winch will have your bronco gone in 2 minutes. However, here are some things you can do to ward off the not so smart thieves.
1. Hidden cutoff switch is difficult to bypass if they try to steal it by starting it. They are cheap and easy to install ( few bucks).
2. An alarm with a high pitch siren mounted in the cab under dash. You can get sirens that will force a thief to plug their ears which takes two hands.
3. Don’t leave your classic unattended or out of sight. I drive my classics for pleasure rides and park them where I can see them if I go inside a restaurant.
4. Get good replacement insurance like Hagerty or others that specialize in classics.
Put a cheap and simple gps tag somewhere out of sight. They may steal it, but you and the cops will find it within minutes.
5. As offered, a dog, a big dog.
