O2 sensor with longer pigtails?

I have the RF efi harness and the O2 sensor connectors are really short to where the driver side is at least 4" too short, the pass side nately makes it. Can I extend the wires or are they of sone special material/shielding?

I’ve heard of people extending them. But weren’t there some specific part numbers floating around here that specified those with longer wires on them already? Seems like Ryan McCormick, put that in his information originally.
Maybe someone can dig that up for you.

Did you buy the RF harness from them? Or did you buy the WH harness from us? I wonder if ours comes with longer 02 sections.
Then again, where did you put your O2 bungs?
They’re supposed to be approximately 9 inches from the rear port if I remember. Are you using manifold, or headers?
If headers, long or short?

My buddy bought it at WH.
Sanderson shorty headers
The driver side O2 connector is only like 6" from the main harness, the passenger side was about 10 inches and just fit the sensor plug.

When was it purchased?
I hope they didn’t mess with our specs again.
Got pics?

Then again, maybe it’s correct and normal, and there are still those extra length versions of the O2 sensors.
Hopefully someone has a part number and I’m not just blowing smoke.

There are a number of aftermarket extenders for the LS conversions and the 87 to 2010 mustangs online. Search for O2 Front Sensor Extension Harness. The link below shows the different type of connectors. I would assume that the the bronco harnesses uses a ford connector, but the year may be critical. You should be able to cross-reference that existing 02 sensor to a car model using rockauto.

I would think that one of our vendors carries extensions due to the number of engine swaps and headers that are installed. You may want to talk to them directly.

Yes there were longer tailed O2 sensors available... If you have new 02 sensors, then a pigtail extension makes sense. (See link below)

I thought that RJM's wiring harness instructions gave a list of part numbers, at the end, of the various components needed. Maybe there? All my links to Ryan's material seem to be dead. I can look for hardcopies later.
A suggestion; given the lacking of knowledge of those behind the auto parts counter these days... Someone might be able to look them up (longer tailed sensors) for you... Doug

How long are the pigtails on your existing o2 sensors?

The 89-93 Mustang 5.0 sensors have a 19 inch long cable integrated into the sensor. The RJM harness has way more than too much wire length when connecting in a Bronco, unless you have long tube headers with collectors behind the transmission. (and you said you were running shorty's)

Is there any chance you have short o2 sensors?

I have the RF harness.
The sensors were Bosch 13942, specific to 1991 Mustang GT 5.0, and the pigtail is maybe 6 inches.
Sanderson EB headers are shorty's

Yeah, it's strange. But the Bosch listing for the 89-93 Mustang is not right.

The "standard" listing is the Bosch 13942, and it has a 7 inch pigtail.
The "alternate" listing is the Bosch 13953, and it has the 18 inch pigtail.

They are otherwise identical, and I bought the wrong one's last June. It kinda hurt my feelings, because I though I was being clever by looking it up on Rockauto, and then ordering from Amazon.

But the factory part was either Denso, or NTK...and the only listing is NTK 22013. It also has the 18 inch pigtail.

So I had to return the "right' part in order to get the other "right" part.

I can't remember if the 86-93 Fox used a short or long pigtail. But I do remember doing EXACTLY what you are doing. And the long one works. I also can't remember what RJM specifies in their instructions. But I'm too lazy to go check. Edit:10/17...I checked the RJM instructions. Sure enough, page 10 shows the Bosch listing for the HEGO with the part numbers above.

Take care,
James.

Looks like something we’ll have to add to our instructions, and the website.

I just re-checked the instructions for our harness (https://www.wildhorses4x4.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/instructions/downloads/WH/6048 07-25-18.pdf) and the two different O2 sensors actually are listed there in the compatible parts list on the next to last page.
It only lists the Ford and Bosch numbers, but it's nice to have the additional NTK number listed here in this discussion.
So, like so many other things with our old rigs, a little mock-up is required to decide ahead of time which one is right for your individual installation.
I do remember Ryan discussing some setups working with the short wires, while others needed the longer ones. But if you're running shorties son yours BI, I wonder just what applications could use the short ones? Maybe stock Mustang headers/tubular manifolds?
Oy, just another things to check!

And speaking of which, got some pics of your Sanderson's installed?

I didn't realize there were longer pigtail versions until I started reading this thread! I use the short ones with your WH shorties and my Ford Motorsport harness (the reworked '93 Mustang harness that Ford sold when no other options were available).

Custom heater core! Interesting.
Have some details on that for us? Maybe in a build thread somewhere?
Interested to see how you did it.

Also, where exactly are you putting your O2 sensor on that side?

That is Old Air Products AC/heater unit, not their eb specific, that install allowed me to come up with many new words. The O2 sensor is very close to the V-band joint. The pic won't show it, but it is tucked up amd that side was able to connect to the RF harness from you.

Not a great angle of header on Dvr side. Will get a better shot next week.
