I was told that the "Stroppe PS upgrades" always used a E series van column from that era - and that an unhooded PRNDL was one of the hallmarks of a Stroppe swap. Given that this truck also has a "very interesting " frame mod to make the PS box fit, and other Stroppe clues like the rough-cast D20/C4 adapter and "very unusual" trans cooler set-up - I've just accepted the fact that this half cab got the Stroppe treatment at some point. It's really too bad that the current owner let it rot away in his driveway for 20? years, but if I can get it back on the road, maybe he'll treat it a little better. I'm going to triage the rust in the spots that are easy to reach - but I'm really hoping he just keeps in a garage and slows down the deterioration. Back on point - I'm not sure if this column swap has complicated the neutral safety or the backup light wiring. I know the turn signals work - haven't tested the back up lights yet. There's that 4 pin flat mystery harness coming out of the lower column - but it doesn't seem to do anything. The “unhooded” PRNDL indicator also indicates an early steering column. A 73 bronco would’ve had it, where a 74 would’ve had the hood. Not sure about the pickup and other cars.
