    Coil Spring Bucket Bolt Specs

Off hand, does anyone know the bolt thread and specs for the two bolts holding the lower coil spring bucket to the axle? I am about to do some work on the front end and thought I might replace those while it is disassembled.

    Explorer fan clutch/fan blade

That is definitely a tiny fan clutch. Must be for the smaller engines.

    Explorer fan clutch/fan blade

The spacing between the bolt holes is 70 mm or just a smidge under 2 3/4 in.

My K&N Air Filter is to low. Spacer?

Why not put a 3 inch tall filter in instead and it will sit just right on the top. More filtering too. That is what I did with my drop base filter.

    Stupid Question - Filling Gas

Exactly what I do. If the main tank gets filled, I drive it at least 10 maybe more to create that expansion volume. Never on the way home with only a few miles to go. And ditto, I filled it up once, drove to work and sat in the heat, and sure enough fuel dribbled out. Security had to come out...

    Stupid Question - Filling Gas

Ah yes. In hot weather it is a different proceedure and what you are doing with estimation is about right. The venting problem is often related to the abence of built-in expansion volume in some aftermarket tanks or poor evap/vent lines in later stock tanks.

    Stupid Question - Filling Gas

Same here. I fill slowly but it shuts off. But sometimes not quickly enough. So I lean down and listen for that doppler-like sound/gurgling that sounds like approaching fluid in a pipe. Of course that last two seconds is when some idiot decides to deploy his active exhaust as he peels away from...

    Hidden Heater Control Valve

What I said: ...The center knob controls the flap. The right knob modulates the valve controlling the water flow.

    Too Far to Drive It?

What BGBronco and Hylandr said. You have done some things to it maintainace-wise that I will bet many of us have not done in the past couple of years and we would drive it. Summer, fall, either way it would make for a wonderful adventure. Besides if you come through Albuquerque you know at least...

    Hidden Heater Control Valve

Not trying to be a smart alec here, but I have never understood what is so difficult about "pull for heat". The wife and I have a running joke about it. Here is the owne's manua; description. The center knob controls the flap. The right knob modulates the valve controlling the water flow.

    Dans 71 Sport "Barn Find"

It will be interesting to see if it is an early, med, or late VIN. We 71 Sports need to stick together.

Body Noise - Rear End - Troubleshooting

Someone want to translate this for me? I am not seeing (a) the cable tie, and (b) how a cable tie can do anything to stop the condition being described. What am I not clear about with this? The reason I ask is that I have asimilar noise and am really interested in seeing if this is the issue.

    BAT Craziness

There is definitely a large error bar on the mean prices depending on "things." This why it is good to have a reserve value that is centered on the trend, I think.

    hard top insulation

I used Wild Horses Racket Jacket after placing a few small strategic sheets of sound deadener. Works pretty well at dropping interior temperatures and noise. If it can do that here at 5000 ft in clear blue NM sunlight, I expect it would work as well or better at lower altitudes and fuzzier skies.

    1971 302 PCV hose question

That's what I was thinking. It may have changed half-way through the 71 model year which is why the factory manual, being written at the beginning of the model year, had the earlier arrangement. Probably scattered over the space of a few months as they used up older parts stacks. The reason I...

    1971 302 PCV hose question

If that isn't confusing enough, at some point Ford had switched from having the PCV valve in the rear passenger side valve cover and the intake from the air clearer in the oil filler cap. Somewhere I read that they moved to the front pil filler cap since it was closer to the top of the vapor...

For what it is worth, here is the 71 shop manual diagram for the PCV arrangement.

    Headrest bracket

All I did was remove the back. It is tight and requires patience to access the two bolts. Once the mount is in place it is easy to feel for the slot that the head rest fits into. Then it is just a matter of very carefully cutting a slit.

    Spare tire cover

I had this custom design done by her about a decade ago for the 71. Heavy material, well constructed, provisions for securing it, No nonsense ordering and quick turn-around. Silver letters and horse with a carbon fiber look. Exceptional stuff. These are one of a kind and these will not come our...

    Equalizer Bar

I'll bet there are a lot of 6 cylinder to V8 conversions running around out there with the 6 cylinder equalizer and wondering why the pedal is so light and the throw is so short.
