1996 explorer swap problem, hesitation

troubleshooting again this morning. Checked resistance on the plug wires, all good.

Test drive after switching them around, although I didn't expect any change. What I did notice was while getting on the gas, bringing it up to around 4k rpm on a hard acceleration while the symptoms of popping and running like crap, I watched the tach on my Dakota digital go a little crazy and at one point drop to zero. I never noticed any anomalies like this on the OBD scan tool, but it may be something to investigate?

Yes, always worth investigating.
I would start by temporarily disconnecting the tach wire from the ignition completely. Leave it off and see if anything changes.

Bad coil pack and cracked porcelain on one plug. I’m on the road finally after the 3.5 year build. Thank you to everyone who weighed in on this or looked to see if they could help.
