Who makes a decent EFI setup for a 351 Windsor? Any chance Ford made a EFI 351 Windsor setup? Isn't a Ford Lightening a 351W EFI?
Thank you one and all!

yes, the lightening is a 351W efi, many vans and some pickups have them too. All of the trucks and vans use speed denisty - not a big deal if your going to leave the engine stock, but if you are going to modify it, you'll want to switch to mass-air. The Lightening is going to have the lowest height to it and the van the highest (ie you most likely will not be able to fit it under your hood). Most of the 351W efi lower intakes will match up to a GT40/Cobra upper from a mustang, and will then fit under your hood. Or you can take any 351W and add a GT40 351W upper an lower intake or a Trickflow 351W upper and lower intake - then just get a 351W efi distributor and the rest of the EFI parts from 5.0 and run.

I don't think there is any kit out there persay - but adding EFI to a 351W is really not much different than adding it to a 302.

I personally will be going mass air with the Trick Flow intakes and Ford stuff, but another option you now have is Edelbrock's Pro-Flo multipoint EFI for the 351W. Summit and Jeg's will have it. My brother runs it on his SB Chevy and it runs great (works well to, 14ish sec 1/4 time and 20 mpg on the highway).

The lightening setup has one big drawback. It is to be run with an E4OD trans. Leave off the trans and the computer will be unhappy and give you codes for tranny problems. The E4OD is to big to fit in an early bronco. To top it off, the little computer controlled trans (that does fit in the bronco) has a different shift pattern (internal) then the big brother so it won't work.

Best bet is adapt a stang mass air or go complete aftermarket.

I have been looking into the Edlebrock setup. Would prefer to do this a little cheaper, but.....

Good luck, Francois.

Im not familiar with fuel injection and I was wondering if there is a parts list somewhere of just what "pieces" are needed to construct a complete EFI setup for a 351.

I think thats about it, if you want part numbers I should be able to come up with some ford part numbers for most of it.

That list sounds good to me. I used an LTD wire harnes on mine cuz I thought it laid out better and I already had used it in my truck on a 302.

What years and what makes of Ford should I look for to ensure I get a Mass Air and not a Speed Density setup?

Unless the lightning was MAF but I think it was SD. The Mustang 5.0L computer with MAF will run a 351 but you need to get an intake for a 351. There are several intakes to choose from, but new they can be pricy. I paid $250 for a gt-40 lower (351) and an explorer 5.0L upper on ebay.

I have it on video for those who call bullshit!

Waverous, for the intake manifolds, have a little patience and shop on corral.net. I got both the upper and lower gt-40s for $250. Those mustang guys are always upgrading.

If you are going to be running 24lb injectors, you will need for optimum performance 70mm throttle body and maf. (It's like putting a larger carb on - the 351 can handle it.) If you do this, then the ECUIV unit will have trouble keeping up with the larger set up. Check out the FFRP catalogue, they sell the computer with the larger maf and the 24lb. Another way to go if you have the EECU unit off the mustang, is to get an aftermarket chip which will adjust the comupter for the set up.

The gt-40 heads aren't sold anymore over the counter. You can find them aftermarket. If you go with the explorer heads, they are gt-40p which, as discussed under the gt-40p thread, require different exhaust manifolds. The gt-40 heads breath easier and give more hp than the stock. If you port and polish the stock, you should get approximately 40hp more from them.

All in all the sefi on the 351w is a great set up.
