Hi Bronco Fans- 1st time on here asking a question, and new to this site. Today a hit a salvage yard and struck gold. I picked up a 351w an AOD and the complete assembly for the explorer 5.0 serpentine assembly for under $300.00 ,My question is since the explorer timing cover is slimmer since there's no mechanical fuel pump, will a gear driven timing set fit or do have to use a chain?? love the way they wine like a blower and would prefer one..
Thanks for the help in advance!!

I did the same on my 351, your going to love the power of fan and power steering pump. You will need to a electric fuel pump, don't forget your fuel filters. after it was all said and dine I ditched the carburetor and installed EFI

Explorer setup is great. actually fits the 351 better then the 302, more frame clearance. But you do need to remember to change the balance of the damper as the late 5.0 is different then the 351.

Electric fuel pump is your only option. Carter P4070 is a well known great choice.

As for a gear drive. Those are not commonly used. But a standard double roller timing chaind does fit just fine under the Explorer cover. I can't see any reason a standard gear drive would be a problem. You will just have to test fit it to really know.

I am running a 351w, C4 combo with the 2 speed taurus fan with no issues.. Volvo 2 speed fans are the same fan but are a little narrower.
