351W roller cam distributor application?

I am looking for a distributer for my 351W that I am building. The cam manufacturer requires a steel or composite distributer gear and my EFI requires the Ford TFI IV module and I require the module to be mounted to the distributer ;)

Does anyone know of a Ford factory application that has all of that?

351W distributer
Steel gear
Distributer mounted TFI IV module

Thanks,

Dan

My 89 and 91 F350 had that, but I purchased a new distributer from BC Broncos

Thanks, I didn't think of checking over there. From what I see he doesn't lest a side mounted TFI distributer WITH the steel cam gear for the roller cam, but he does list the FoMoCo part number for the steel replacement gear.

Buying this at Kragen would be:

$75 for the Cardone distributer p/n: 302884
$34 for the FoMoCo steel distributer gear p/n: M12390F (yup, they can order it there!)

That's a total of $109 for just the distributer, no cap, no rotor, no cap base adaptor, no TFI module. Since I already have all of the rest of thoes parts I am not including them in my search for the "right" distributor.

Still would be nice if there was a factory application for this.

Both of thoes come up as the same distributor but neither of thoes are for roller cams. They ahave the cast iron cam gear.

None of the BC Broncos distributers mention anything about the composition of the distributer gear or make any mention as to their application (roller or flat tappet cam). The drop in replacement distributers are $200 and the HEI style with built in coil are $360. I would imagine that just like everyone else they will sell you one with the steel gear on them for a small ($30-$60 more) charge.

Thank you for playing, try again ;)

I don't think there is a factory application for your needs. The TFI module went remote before the cams went roller.

I would look for ~'90 351 distributor and hope they offer the cast/steel option. If not then you will get a cast gear and will need to regear the distributor to match the cam.

Ya, after researching this a bit tonight it doesn't look like there are any applications that had a roller cam and a distributer mounted TFI IV module at the same time.

I am considering going the Cardone distributor / FoMoCo steel gear rout or maybe a ProComp PC10004 complete distributor ($175), I need to find out if that distributor has the steel gear on it though.

I have heard bad things about the Procomp dizzys.
I recall on my 302 EFI conversion , the rebulit dizzys from Advance auto gave me the choice of steel or cast gear for a 302. IIRC , I looked up for an '89 Stang.
Maybe they will give you a similliar option ....

seems as though if you had a roller 351 (stock) then you have a dizzy with the right gear. why not just get a side mount TFI Dizzy and put your gear on it???

Also, TMD offers one that has the correct gear for like 140 bones or so.

YEP ,
Cardone # 30-2884

EDIT : WTF? Same part # shows cast AND steel gears depending on application. Even on Cardones website. On the 5.0 motors the part # changes depending on which gear you want.

Maybe they're using a nylon or bronze gear then? Or whatever materials are the ones that are supposedly compatible with multiple cam materials.
OR, as happens so often, the computer is just wrong and that number is only good for one, but not both, of the applications.

Not that THAT would ever happen...

i used the stock distributor from the roller cammed 351w. all you do is a little wiring and you have a remote mount tfi, mustang wiring, and a OEM ford distributor.

look up my efi post and you will see it.

I'm going to run this -
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-8453/?image=large

This is non-roller, but they make a roller version for the same price. I looked up getting a parts store distributer, cap, and TFI module with core charge and the price was close enough to this MSD unit it is worth the upgrade.

well stay away from the procomp junk and MSD has more then its share of DOA parts. OEM is the way to go when you can.

My F350 doner vehicles came with stock roller cams, but the parts stores don't seem to recognize it. Yes I ordered mine with a steel gear.

OEM ignition is an option - but for the money I'd rather have a bit better equipment. I can understand your point though - OEM stuff lasts a VERY long time, I just like my performance parts where the help.
