New to the forum here and this will be my first post. I have a 69 that i recently pulled the motor on to address multiple leaks and this evening i went to the local speed shop to pick up some seals and such. I purchased an oil pan and i told the parts guy mine has a double sump and the one he had pulled was a front sump. i even showed him pictures and one of the engine builders came out from the back and explained thats a late model 302 pan. I wasnt a hundred percent convinced but i advised him it was on a bronco and he said that would work. i came home a just threw in on the block it fits but after checking numerous sites like tbp and bc broncos it seems to me that the pan i have is going to smash the front diff first chance it gets. The shop is an hour away if anyone can clear this up for me id really appreciate that.

welcome aboard. vast amount of knowledge on this site.

99% sure you want the rear sump for the reason stated. gotta keep some distance from the axle...

what oil pump and pick up tube do you have? the rear sump version is much longer than front sump...

hope this helps.

Hi, unless your old pan has serious damage you could make sure the rail are flat and reuse it. If the rail are puckerd at the bolt holes just gently tap them flat by supporting it from the bottom and tapping on the top. If you need Bronco specific parts get them from a Bronco parts house. Good luck

Going to a speed shop for Bronco parts is a mistake. The original pan is the only one ever made for the early Bronco chassis. The front sump pans are for '60s-'70s cars, and the 2 sump pans are made for '80s-'early '90s Fox and Panther (Mustang and Crown Vic) body cars. The 2 sump '80s Mustang pan works better than any other none EB pan, but OE EB pans are the best. If you have an original early Bronco pan, keep it as B RON CO said. Why would you want another pan?

I have the motor out to fix all the weeps and wanted to go with a new oil pan that has a threaded dipstick to eliminate another area that always seems to leak. I learned my lesson and will be going bronco specific for parts like that in the future.

After about '72-'77 the original Bronco pan did have a threaded dip stick. New early Bronco oil pans don't exist.

Tom's Bronco parts has original Bronco pans for a lot less than 400 bucks. Engine builders don't know or care what chassis the engine is going into. Any 260, 289, or 302/5.0 will work on your engine, but different chassis require different sump designs. That's why Ford made so many different pans that fit on a given engine.
