I was thinking about adding some headers to my stock 76 w/ 302. Its my weekend driver and just want a little better sound and what ever HP i can get. It is a stock 302 and the truck has a 2.5 suspension lift and 1" body lift

What brand is everyone else was using or any suggestions on coated on painted. Thanks

I'm running Hedman competition headers, same as the Elites but cheaper, painted them with high heat silver, they look and sound great, they fit good too.The most important thing to do is use the locking header bolts, can't remember where I got mine but probably Summit, very cheap insurance,no leaks and no re-tightening,great product.

Typically long tube headers will gain you more than shorties. Either way your bound to gain something with either setup. I would recommend getting coated versions. It reduces heat helps flow and the coating helps the headers last longer.

Remember you (or may not) need to re-tune your engine for the better breathing exhaust. It can be as simple as changing the timing, or often upping the main jet sizes in the carburetor. Or it could benefit more greatly (even stock ones can actually) from adjusting the timing curve of the distributor.
It all depends on how yours is set up now of course, and it may actually make things perfect just by adding the headers.
But I usually expect to upsize the jets at least, when adding headers.

I don't know if there is a hard and fast rule on how much, but I think broncobowsher just mentioned two sizes up in another thread? Maybe he'll jump in and confirm.

Today ( 2 days late :( ) My Headers and Stainless Exhaust arrived at Shop. Everything longs real good, however I believe the they should be advertised as "Made with some Stainless Steel" , The Bolts and header Flanges were nonferrous, while the Exhaust Pipe was able to hold a Magnet. Still , not a bad exhaust, I don't think it will rust, but I believe it will discolor . I hope to have the Bronco back from the shop and drivable before Thanksgiving.

Stainless is a generic term. There are all grades of the stuff. Most have enough steel to hold a magnet. If it didn't, all the refrigerator magnets would just fall on the floor. Also, it doesn't resist stains very well. Just look at my refrigerator.

I think the world has gone "stainless crazy."%)

My 2 cents, and not a penny more. Order them ceramic coated. I went longs, but it probably doesn't really matter. Don't expect huge power gains. If you're going dual exhaust, keep the pipes down to 2" - 2.25" diameter to keep that low end torque. I went 2.5" and feel it was a mistake. Remember that whatever you do though, it will be fine--so don't fret too much.
