Yeah, they are crappy fittings that weren’t very tight together and though it being a drain, that what I did was good but clearly not.

Will take it off once it cools and use my thread seal paste with thread lock. Nothing gets through that. I’ve used it on my tv pressure sensor setup and everything else important and wish I’d used that on this but will now.
What is your favorite thread seal paste brand?

Btw, ntqsd and I were suggesting similar approaches but I was confused by your reply. Looking at the pics, I thought it was mounted square to floorboard?

Is the fan a pusher or puller?

I’d guess there’s a boundary layer close to floorboard that you want to work around. A wind speed sensor would tell you if at speed the airflow was getting interrupted. I was using one to check how my winch affected radiator airflow at speed.

I swear by this stuff. The only thing that sucks is the cure time.
image.jpg

Yeah hard to tell from the pics but I designed and ordered brackets that space it away as much as possible. I think the problem is the fan. These fans seem to suck so bad that they don’t suck at all through this beefy cooler.

DeltaPAG already responded that all 9” fans stink and they recommended their own cooler and shit do I wish I’d seen that before.

Not sure I have the room for it but might be worth trying if I do. The price is VERY reasonable for their products.

I would be putting a thermocouple on the cold air side of the cooler and watch what the air temp going into the cooler is.
If it is cold, the cooler isn't shedding heat as fast as it is going in.
If it is hot, airflow issue with hot air getting to the front of the cooler.
Then you know what direction you have to go.

I fully agree that air temp could be a big problem, but if the fan isn't strong enough to pull enough air to cool, then there seems no point. And I could prob test what the air temp is but I think I need to focus on airflow through the cooler first and then think about the air temp. I'm not always going to have cool air available either, like on a hot day. I've noticed from the start that the airflow of the Spal fan that came with this does not move very much air at all.

I just retested this Zirgo fan mounted and wired up with the engine running and 13.9 volts, it's still just barely under 4 amps. That's crap. Not even going to bother with a test drive. Ordered an anemometer so I can get a reading on it mounted and compare these fans.

I think once I’ve maxed my fan options, I can move on. Most of these fans are inexpensive. Only pricey one is the Davies Craig at $220 or something.

I asked more about the DeltaPAG and how thick it is and how much space it needs underneath and it might work better for me if I can fit it. He said:

“ Its about 5" + 2" gap. Our 15 x 13 with 12" fan is about 3x the heat dissipation of that derale.”

I think I can fit it. Might have to move my fuel filter but not the end of the world if I need to. And the fact that they claim 240,000 btu/hr of cooling is insane. The Derale claims 130k and it’s nowhere near that.

As insane as this Derale cooler is, it just doesn’t seem right for me. I could wait until this new fan comes but I’m leaning towards getting the DeltaPAG one.

Screw it.

I just ordered the DeltaPAG setup. Expensive but It should work better for me and I'm confident in their fan specs and much larger fan.

Anyone wanna buy this Derale 65860 race cooler setup? I'm sure it's way more than anyone else will need.

I was still curious so I got an Anemometer to test the airflow though this Zirgo fan I'm returning and the meter is a cheap Amazon one, so could certainly be off a little but calculating about 230-260 cfm through my cooler and about 470-500 cfm open air.

I tested the Spal I was using, rated at 625, I actually got 635 cfm or so open air.

Glad I didn't bother with the test drive.

Wondering how bad this Alloyworks one will be but less stressful since I'm just waiting for the DeltaPAG one now. I've certainly racked up the expenses on cooler testing for y'all. I'm glad nobody else has heat issues like I do.

ba123, is there any way that your sending unit could be inaccurate? You have went "to infinity and beyond", and it shouldn't be this difficult..................oh that's right, it's a bronco. LOL

No, I know it's correct and I've had a couple different ones as well to be absolutely sure. I've also laser temp'd the lines in and out. This AOD just runs way too hot. At first I had the temp sensor in the hot port out and it was 270 just cruising around town. I can only imagine what it is going up Highway 17. I think if this DeltaPAG cooler doesn't cool it enough then it's time to move on.

Doesn’t really matter cause I’m just waiting for the DeltaPAG stuff but I received the Chinese made Alloyworks fan today and it seems more powerful that the Spal one I have, has curved blades like the Spal (better for a puller) and I might try it in the meantime.

It does NOT measure up to the claims of 12.5amps and 1730 rpm. Those are both SO far off it’s crazy. It’s about the same as the Spal 600-635 and slightly higher amperage at about 4.5.

Definitely worth the $25 and no shipping I paid for it and will just sell it with the Derale cooler when I am done with it.

Headed out of town for a couple weeks so perfect timing on having to wait for the DeltaPAG anyway. 💪🏻

I've been wondering why Spal DeltaPAG stuff is 4-6 wks out and has been since last spring?? When you ordered did they say or did you ask? Is it a materials shortage or something? I was going to order one for a guy and told him I'd be hesitant because if he needed a replacement he'd be out of commission for all that time.

Difference between a DD and a vehicle that isn't needed for dependability... frustrating... we're looking at OE stuff from junkyards.

Not sure if you meant to write Spal DeltaPAG. Those are two separate companies. You can buy Spal stuff anywhere.

DeltaPAG makes their stuff to order and always takes 4-6 weeks.

You wouldn’t need a replacement. There isn’t anything to go out but the module which you just swap in place and they say that lasts 9000-10000 hours.

Correct on the "Spal/Delta/PAG" miss-type.

Agreed that DeltaPAG makes their stuff but as we all know, stuff fails prematurely and when it does die b4 the promised 9-10K hours on their module (which I was seriously looking at) but other things can happen. Fan can get crunched when working around it. Someone can mess up the wiring or a dozen other possibilities and the DD guy is taking the bus to work for 4-6 weeks. That's the point I"m trying to make is all. All I know about their stuff is it works as listed and has a great rep and I think we're all hoping it works for ya!

Yeah, maybe I shouldn’t assume but I’d like to think that if it were that sort of situation then they’d rush but if the fan got crushed, then so did a whole lot more and 4 weeks is no big deal. There is no motor to fail on the fan, so if I understand correctly, it’s not gonna happen.

I’ve have my DeltaPAG radiator fan for a 2-4 years now and it has been perfect. And the slimmest and strongest fan you’ll find.

I might test the new one when it comes since I’ve been testing all these and I’d be shocked if their specs aren’t legit. These fans move air like no other.

And worst case you wait 4 weeks for a fan and you need it sooner, then throw another fan on there that is half as good in the meantime. Can always have a backup of another brand—but they all suck balls.

Fan has to have some sort of motor. From the very little that I've seen of them I suspect their motors are built a bit like these: https://www.thingap.com/
The brushless DC motors used in things like RC stuff and some cordless power tools are extremely impressive. We inherited a cordless leaf blower that nearly out-performs our corded blower, and weighs less than 1/3 of the corded.
Delta makes all the right noises about having OEM or nearly OEM MTBF's, and their general rep supports that. There will always be the outlier failure.

Lead times on DC motors of all kinds have gone way up due to magnets getting hard to source. China has significantly slowed the export of rare earth magnets/magnet materials over the last couple years which most manufacturers rely on heavily. This has forced anyone who makes or uses motors to scramble to find a second magnet source, qualify lower quality magnets, or redesign their motors to have a similar output with different magnet types. I’d imagine this is one of the reasons the quality fan manufacturers lead times have been high, it’s effected us in my industry, we make things that fly with electric motors and props, so basically a fan.

Yup, yup & yup! :) Every point is a good one.

My bad days are when I used to get my 2 days of paid time off a year and I could accumulate them for 3 yrs so I could take a whole WEEK and hit Moab or Rubicon or any other fun Bronco outing with others btw Aug and June... Spend 3 yrs dreaming about going and you get there to have a great week of wheeling, seeing people & taking your better half around the country side BUT a sensor fails or something dies and it takes 3-5 days to get the part and your vacation you've waited THREE YEARS for is over with no mobility cause your DD Bronco can't move... Been There, Done That... Beyond frustrating...

This is why I am always hammering quality of parts and parts availability...

Sorry if my rant on these points get old, but it's real...
