Best place to buy a new/remanufactured motorcraft carb?

HI Guys- My carb rebuild was not successful. Going to just buy a new carb. I have a stock 1974 2bl Motorcraft (tag says D4BE FA). Any suggestions? Also going to buy a new fuel pump as the fuel filter was clogged with sediment from the aux tank. What is the right mechanical pump? PSI recommendation for a bone stock 302?

Thanks for any recommendations.

I personally think you'd be better off finding an old school repair shop and having your carb gone through by them, it'll likely only take an hour of labor. As for the pump, I'd leave the pump unless it's no longer working. Just get new fuel filter and clean out your tanks.... While the tanks are out take carb cleaner and compressed air and blow the fuel lines clean.

I've rebuild a ton of 2100 and 2150. Ship it to me with a kit and I'll hook you up. No charge man

Ford doesn't make new ones. The Chinese do, but I've heard no feedback on them. I would rather trust an ebey used carb that I rebuilt. It sounds like you have an original that would be an even better choice. Some commercial re-builders will sell you a carb they claim to be correct. Sometimes they are, but it would be a huge mistake to send them yours as a core. I don't know how your DIY rebuild went bad, but it's likely you'll figure it out someday. At least as likely that a commercial rebuilt carb will work well.

Not sure what ya mean by unsuccessful.

Before sending off for rebuild....You might 1st check the main throttle shaft for wear. Some rebuild places can/will add bushings to take out the slop and some wont.

I have had good luck with local jy used carbs that have no play in the throttle shafts then installing a simple rebuild kit. I've passed up a lot more carbs with worn shafts than I have found good ones.

If there is play in the shaft no amount of tuning will work because unmetered air is getting in (and fuel can get out)

Mine from National Carb. A little bit of a wait (you trade yours for theirs), but ran great and still going.

I bought mine from Autozone, which uses National Carburetor.

I didn't have a core to rebuild. The local carburetor specialists in my area (there are two), didn't have any spare cores.

Ultimately convenience and customer service were the deciding factors. If something is wrong with the carburetor it's easy to return or exchange.

There is a guy in WA state, Mike's Carburetor Parts. He has some youtube videos if you want to check your work. I have bought some kits and parts from him. Super nice guy and very knowledgeable. He does rebuilds as well, may be worth a call.

Another one to avoid is Carbontooters(KP Carbs) total hack trained buy the original hack Ponycarbs.

Don't over think it. These carbs are very easy to repair. If you need a second set of eyes I would take Kevin up on his awesome offer.

This is why this is a great site---the people!:)

Thanks man. Did you by chance happen to check the power valve and make sure it was good.
I know the last two 2150 rebuild kits I got the power valve were shot and would not hold pressure. Get a mityvac should hold at 12hg I think.

Lots of great advise on this post.. As I started reading MY 1ST THOUGHT WAS say .. I'll pay your core charge for you, If you'll send me your old carb.
.. I used to own a parts store in the 70's 80's & 90. But it got to where I kept every carb core that I sold .. Then we rebuilt them .. I always ask what the carb was doing 1st and address that issue. If it still had the same issue .. We tried to get a motor we could run them on. And some times with Q-JETS I'd get a mechainc to come down at night & look one over . We Figured most out.
..............................
.... So I'll say ... Don't give up your core. You may need it to fix the one you buy.
I also say Auto Zone is easy to get a defect replace a time or 2 anyway.
... & Sending it too our Bronco Brother & letting him have a shot at it another great idea..
........................
... So give us a run down on what problem it has.. Some one may know exactly what your issue is.
.. I think it was the old Rochester 2bbl . That had about 3 spot the lever to the primer pump. IF THERE WAS A DELAY AT TAKE OFF .. MAN IT'D stumble bad.

Go back to basics to. Is the timing set right ? Are all the ports plugged back up and in the right spots? I know alot of times I get in a hurry to fire something up. And forget to plug something back up. And then you have manifold vac to distributor or carb port to distributor. To me manifold port runs better. I feel like it's a little more peppy in the throttle response
