Hey guys, this is an all broncos event happening in Michigan. I know a lot of people missed out on JBGY's bronco gathering this year, but this event should be just as fun. Bill Casey is running the event and has set up a Facebook page. If you need all the info you can sign up for the event here https://www.facebook.com/events/1164930460200448/

If you don't have face book here is the tentative schedule of events

There will be show starting at 9am and early lunch at val du lakes campground and bar. 12-1 pm Convoying threw town to the dunes. Dune events include hill climbing and sand drags. If you do not wish to participate in those events there are areas on the dunes to park and chill. Event is open to all broncos any year no need to be in a club just bring your bronco and have a great time.

If you're planning on going reserve hotel or campgrounds soon as there are other events going on that weekend as well and accommodations are already filling up fast.

Is anyone going to be there on Friday? That weekend I'll be in Baldwin for an annual canoe trip with friends, but I could spend some time Friday at the dunes.

Wife just said she's up for going for this event. We will try. And I hope I don't break anything in July when we are there.

I'd like to go , can anyone give me a run down on the area , I'd like to stay at a hotel . Can you buy the flag whips locally ? Where , when do you get passes to the dunes, best deals and anything not needed.
Any info would be appreciated

http://www.thinkdunes.com/lodging/ for motels in the area

You will need a flag and flag mount, mount can be a simple piece of flat stock bolted to the bottom of the bumper sticking out with a 1/2" hole in it.

You need a state park sticker and both ORV stickers, these can be purchased at the visitor center near the dunes, you can no longer buy them at the dune entrance.

You do not need vouchers for dune entrance like you did in the past unless you want to park a trailer in the parking lot, the lot fills up so I recommend being street legal so you can drive on as a dune ready vehicle.

When you go though the park entrance you need to be ready, have your hubs locked in and tires aired down as there is only a few spots to park and those may be full. I recommend having a spot to hook up a tow strap and and having a strap at the ready, the entrance from the parking area to the dunes is a bit uphill and when it's busy can get pretty torn up so be aware of it and be in 4wd when you pass the flag check area. If you are driving a near stock bronco with street tires be extra careful, maybe find someone to go ahead of you that can give you a tug if you have an issue, as busy as it will be you don't want to be the guy blocking the entrance.

There are other events going on that weekend so book rooms/campgrounds early(like now).

There are sound regulations in place so if you have a loud rig read up on it.

There is a requirement to have a reverse flow muffler or spark arrester on your exhaust, a glasspack will not pass if you are checked closely.

The water holes on the dunes may look shallow but they can be deep, they eat trucks on occasion.

Follow the directional signs, take a nice easy lap around the first time and remember that the dunes can change hourly and what was a rounded hill in the morning can have a 8 foot vertical drop in the afternoon.

From what I saw on the book of faces this morning James Duff is bringing the Pony Express bronco here for the event, pretty cool, I remember when I first bought my bronco in the early 90s getting a catalog from Duffs with that bronco in it, always thought it was pretty cool.

Yes, James Duff will be there with the pony express! It may be its last sand run as rumor has it they are retiring it soon to be placed in a museum!

???? Had not heard that part.

Perhaps, but I know it was recently invited to be part of the "Early Off Roaders" exhibit running May through October at the AACA museum in Hershey, PA (a Smithsonian Affiliate museum) but they passed since they wanted to get it dialed in to bring it up to Silver lake later this summer.
