Took her for her first long trip today up to Nightsticks place. It's about a 50 mile round trip drive. She drive good, just a little rough and I hear a whine coming from somewhere so I'll need to track that down but overall, it was a nice successful trip.

I'm gonna move the soft top over from the 76 to the 69 which will help keep the sun off me. Man was it hot ;).

Got a few things to button up but seems to be running pretty well.

Great to hear Izzy, hope it is less suspenseful for you next time. I can picture you being on edge hoping nothing happens.

LOL, no kidding man... I gotta get some work done around the house but I am going to start tearing apart the 5.0 in the 76 soon and get that one back running too. Kills me that after all that work, I'm still not driving it.

But it was really nice to get out in a Bronco after all this time. Felt great.

WOOHOO, Passed inspection on my first trip!!!

Tomorrow morning, I'll get it registered and will be 100% legal beagle.

I'm now back to driving an EB as a daily driver and it feels so good. Now I can get back to working on the 5.0 in the 76.

I was having a issue with my spark plug wires and realized they were rubbing on the hood so I added a 1"BL. I didn't take any pics but the stance is much better.

Question: After adding the BL, my steering is now very tight. I read where you have to modify the firewall bracket for the steering column and that seemed to help but it's not back to normal yet.

Could it be an issue of the steering shaft now being too short and it pulling on the box?

Any other suggestions?

Dropping the firewall mount helps witht he angle. But the shaft may have tension on it from stretching the shaft. I never broke loose the slider on the collapsing portion of the lower shaft. So it may be pulling the column and steering box together giving the binding feel. I would simply remove then reinstall the lower shaft and see if that takes out the bind.

I was just reading some of your other threads on the Xterra swap and coming to the same conclusion. Thanks for the tip, I will try that tonight.

I'll send you a pic too, the BL makes a bigger difference than you would think though I'm not sure the difference will show in the pictures.

Thanks again Tim.

Well the problem was infact the steering shaft pulling on box. I loosened and pulling the lower shaft off the box, let is sit where it wanted to sit and re-installed it and the steering is back to normal. The only concern I have now is that the telescoping shaft did not move and I'm not sure the shaft is on the box enough to be comfortable. I'd like it sit on it more than it is right now. So I sprayed the shaft and will let it sit over night and try it tomorrow.

One step closer.

That is a modern steering shaft. There is a little plastic injection to hold the 2 parts together. It should break and collapse in a collosion. Old body lift instructions from the 80's tell you to break that and allow the extra travel. I was never worried about it as any day to day flexing would be absorbed by the rag joint. So I just got everything to fit and kept the collapsing portion stuck together.

Ah, so those two little white holes are plastic pieces keeping it from collapsing? So do I drill them out or how do I break them and is that ok to do?

Looks good Izzy! Nice to see you got it on the road! ;D

Yeah, I'm glad to be driving a bronco again though I gotta admit, not driving a bronco in 110 degree weather from July to August wasn't a bad deal ;)

I have a few more things to do to this one and I'm gonna tear back into the engine on the 76. I'm itchin to get that one back going now.

HI Izzy - too funny, I remember that rig up at HCC performance! I asked Tim if I gave him an extra $60.00, he would switch out your wooden steering wheel for mine ~ two rigs are always better than one. I think I met Barnes up there too, he was having a soft top put on a sweet brown rust colored rig he was taking up to CO.

That is funny. Especially since that was the first thing I swapped out after getting it home.

Yeah, that was Barnes. That's one sweet Bronco huh!!!

I knew I should have swapped out that steering wheel when no one was looking! Did you sell it or is it sitting in a corner trash pile somewhere?

Hey, Barnes' rig is freaking gorgeous! That is some crazy craftsmanship inside that vehicle. So what’s the plan for the rig you just bought ~ daily driver, show queen, rock monster?

Installed the soft top today and the center console. Everything is fitting great except those pesky wipers. I am going to have to bite the bullet on those sync'd wiper motors as I can't fit anythign else in there.

Anyway, here are a few pics...

Oh, the last pic is of my mom. She came over for dinner and cake to celebrate her birthday and asked if she could help with the Bronco. So I got the step stool out, she hoped in and helped me install the tuffy console. I thought it was pretty cool.
