Thanks for the help everyone. I ended up with 2 choices I would be happy with. I tried to buy the smaller one and both comp cams and summit said they were out of stock. So I had to buy the bigger one, Darn. Ended up getting the 264 HR. The one that is pictured in RJrobbins post.

I think I will. Duration is not bad and If I need to degree it in a little advanced I can do that. But with the standard trans I think it will work just fine. Again, thanks for the help.

Don’t have it running yet but chose this one for my Exp 5.0 with rebuild heads/spring kit to match.

In the same boat looking for a roller cam after wiping a flat tappet during break in.
Howards has a cam with similar duration and lift as the lunati and comp 35-512-8 but with a LSA of 110.
How big of a difference does this make if EFI is not a consideration?

For what I would have paid Summit was about what I paid for a custom cam designed by Lee Atkinson out of TX. He has Comp Cams do his custom grinds. He just did one for my FE 390. Lee is very good at designing cams.

Wait for others with more expertise in the area, but if I remember correctly, the narrower LSA enhances low rpm torque a little bit. But the wider LSA is good for EFI because it has less valve overlap.
That’s just going from vague memory, however, and modern engines can compensate for that loss with other things, including more gears in the transmission, longer intake runners and better combustion in the engine.

Good read. And in some ways, the opposite of what I said.
While the first paragraph mentions lower rpm range, it doesn’t say specifically what the aspect change is. But the rest of the article states pretty clearly that the wider the lobe separation, the smoother the idle, higher engine vacuum, and other things.
A smoother idle and higher vacuum and probably lower emissions are very likely why you see modern EFI engines running 114° instead of 108. And thumper and lumpity rumpity cams having narrower angles.

Now I know how to pronounce "Vizard" finally!
Used to see his name in print in the magazines all the time.

In my opinion though, "making torque and horsepower" actually CAN be secondary for an engine driven on the street and trail compared to drivability. Especially when it's also a daily driver.
Fuel economy and lower emissions are actually a thing we can be happy with, and proud of with our more built up engines.
The exception in my mind being one built with sand dune running, or drag racing in mind. Which I don't do.

390FE.......If that custom cam is the below size or bigger....buy end stands now....you will snap rocker shafts. Been there...done that P side snapped 1/4 mile from home.....Lasted for a couple years before it let go.

Cam has performer RPM heads with dual springs and Harland Sharp rockers. FE valvetrain was for the daily work truck for sure.
