Click/Squeak from T-Case...front output

Guys-

My T-case (dana 20) is making a clicking/squeaking sound when engaged in 4WD. I'm thinking it is the T-case as I drove it engaged in 4WD with front wheels not locked (free) and it made the same noise...doesn't make the noise in 2WD.

It sounds like a bearing going out...can anyone else confirm and tell me how easy/difficult it is to fix?

Thanks,

Dave

Drop the driveshaft and check again. My first 2 guesses are U-joint or centering ball in the CV.

How do I test to see if it is the CV? Drop the front drive shaft, engage 4WD, then see if it still makes the noise? No noise = CV; Noise = t-case.

Thanks,

Dave

That pretty much does it.
More then likely you will notice the CV when it is in your hands. Look for trails of rusty powder coming from the caps or centering ball as well, that is a sure sign that you waited too long to grease it.
