Clutch Equalizer Bar

Starting to put the flywheel back on and noticed the equalizer bar was extremely loose. So I take it off and I'm not sure if the bar itself has been wallowed out beyond repair. Here are the pictures...I thought I read that the motor pivot had two bolts, but there's only one connection and that's to the bell housing. Is something screwed up? Like I said, this thing was really loose.

There are plastic bushings that go into the equalizer bar actually they install on the frame bracket peg and the engine bracket peg and are held on with a c clip. There is also a felt washer that kinda seals the joint from dirt. Yours are probably just worn out I'd say the bar should be ok. You might be able to weld or use JB weld to build the egged out part of your equalizer bar once you have new bushings. Worst case you can replace the tube.
Here's what you need some of the other venders also sell these but I dont know if they have them in kit form

There should be a hole in the engine block for the other bolt to go in but its possible that someone has swapped in a later model 5.0 in your bronco they dont have the block hole. Usually not a big deal Might want to check the casting number on your block if the starter is not installed yet you should find it there.

D1 is a 71 block D is for the 70's and 1 is the year.
I lost a bolt out of my block at one time and ran it for years without one it should be good to go as long as the other bolt is tight. Does it even have a boss on the block? Yours might not have been drilled or it was for a automatic tranny. But I was pretty sure all pre 5.0 blocks had that hole tapped. But I guess I've never really paid all that much attention.
In your first picture isnt that a bolt sticking out the side of your block?

It appears to be a stud of some sort. I'll get under there and check it out more tonight.

if it appears to me a stud, i wonder if it's a broke off bolt? that's where one of the bolts for that bracket is supposed to go. the other one goes to the bell housing.

It looks just like this. It's hard for me to tell if that's a bolt or a stud of some sort, but even the motor bracket I have seems screwed up. I'll climb under and clean everything off better tonight so I can see if it's a broken bolt.

that's wierd. mine doesn't have a stud like that. that looks like a double ended bolt, where it has the head in the middle. mine just has a bolt that goes through the bracket and into the block. the spacer is built onto the bracket.

There are nylon bushings and felt washers that sit on the post and they are held on by a little e-ring type critter. WIthout it it is a sloppy fix. Cand get from jeff's and Tom's both I believe

Yeah, I'm running the parts down now. I went underneath and cleaned everything up. Realized it is a stud screwed into the block, versus the bolt everyone else mentioned. Not sure if this is stock, but it appears to be too short. There's a groove on the end of the stud where some type of clip used to be, but it doesn't protrude completely through the engine mount piece of the equalizer bar. I attached a picture of it. Anyone have the dimensions on the bolt your using for yours? Seems like it would secure it a lot better.

Your engine probably came out of a car(probably a torino according to your casting #) as thats a car type equalizer bracket the equalizer hooks straight to it unlike the bronco that has a bracket. Just leave that out and get yourself a bolt and install your(bronco) bracket.

Maybe it's the one from the other side FRANKO? Frame side vs engine side, that is.
Kinda looks like it from your second pic there. I can only see the backside of course, so don't know if it's the same style stud end, but it looks to be a screw-in type of deely-bob.

THANKS PAUL !!!

OK "FirstSergeant" SHOW US SOME PIC OF THE STUD ON THE FRAME SIDE AND ON THE PIVOT BRACKET ...see pic!!

I HAD TO DO THE SAME REPAIR 2 WEEKS AGO !
I WAS THINKING ABOUT REMOVING BOTH STUDS AND CONNECTING THE ASSEMBLY WITH AN 1/2" X 8" BOLT .. BUT I WAS SO MAD @ MY SELF FOR REMOVING EVERYTHING BEHIND THE BELL HOUSING BEFORE I REALIZED THAT MY PROBLEM WAS NOT THE CLUTCH PLATE , THAT
IN THE END I JUST ORDERT NEW BUSHINGS AND PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER INCLUDING A NEW CLUTCH !

Its the engine side mount from a car application. Check any of the mustang venders they sell that same part. I've never seen a "factory" bronco setup with that stud in either mount position.
All the bronco ones that I've ever seen were welded in on the engine side I believe the frame side is pressed in.

Here ya go. So, you think I need a whole new equalizer setup? If this is from a car?...Everything looks like it will work, just might need the new bushings. I just want to do the job right and for it to work as designed.
