Colorado, Holy Cross run in July

So where the pics from the run?

I just got home about an hour ago. Haven't had time to upload any pics from the camara yet.

So get this - We had 4 EBs and a 77 Blazer run Holy Cross on Thursday. It drizzled most of the day, so it was wet and muddy. The Blazer made it to French Creek, and all the EB's made it to Holy Cross City, but we didn't try Cleveland Rock. The only carnage we had was Brad (Past_Miner) slid backwards off a rock, hooked his tailpipe which bent into his brake line and broke it off. So he had to run with only front brakes, but still made it past the city and back. Not bad for 5 vehicles on Holy Cross. ;D

Then the next day we went down to Buena Vista and ran Chinaman Gulch. Same five rigs and the trail was dry. Should have been a piece of cake. Not so - total carnage was: tire rolled off the bead (on the entrance road); power steering pump shot; broken Dana 20 rear output shaft; broken U joint on the front axle; bent rim; Blazer hit a rock with the front tire and shoved the axle back on the leaf springs and then couldn't turn right. Four out of the five rigs had something break, and the 5th rig was running really rough by the time we got done. Go figure. :p

Well we got home about 7:30 last night without any more problems. Thanks again to everyone who was there and who helped us get back out of Chinaman.

I have the new extreme D20 output shaft on order and it should be here in a week or so. We will be ready for this spring, wherever it is!

Chris, I have a whole box full of parts for that 203 range box so let me know if you need anything else when you get around to putting it together.

Paul, I'm looking for those part numbers for you too.

When I went to air up the next morning after Chinaman, I discovered that I had bent the inside lip on one of my rims. It would hold air at low pressure, but not above about 20 psi. It didn't kink it, so I sould be able to hammer it back in place.

Good wheeling with you again Brad. If you could email me the exploded view of the 203 range box, that would be great. Then I'll go through it and let you know if I need anything. Thanks again for finding and getting the box to me.

You're welcome and it's never a problem. If I run across another Ford 203 I will probably pick it up just for good measure. I have an exploded view filed away somewhere on my home computer. I will look for it and get it to you.

It's always great wheeling with you guys too. We couldn't ask for a better group to go with. I'm just hoping to make it all the way through a weekend one of these days lol %)

Thats some beautiful area there, looks like fun! It was pretty wet and muddy in Tillamook on Saturday, cant wait till it dries out a little, I dont mind the mud but made it tough for most of the rigs in our group.

Thanks Chris for puttin up the pics so fast. They are really nice. I haven't done the trail in the rain before and it made it fun. I didn't recognize French Creek at all, when we came up on it, whether from the rain water runoff or just movement of rocks over the years. It was great bein back up there after six or seven years or more.

Holy Cross trail is between Minturn and Leadville off of FS-703. Check out this link.

Do you have lockers? You could probably make it to at least French Creek even if you don't have lockers. Trying French Creek with 33's and a Dana 30 if you have open diffs would be pushing your luck, but a lot depends on how you drive it. Of course if you break you can use that as an excuse to upgrade.

If you can, go along with this group, and go as far as you are comfortable with. If it gets too tough, you can find a place on the side of the trail to park it and then hike the rest. It's a beautiful trail.
