Tore into my transfer case and reinstalling front drive assembly. It is a 72 Bronco with the T shift but has the J shift front output shaft assembly with the pressed on bearing instead of the c-clip retainer. I have it all together and I put my dial indicator on it there is very little end play. A little less than 1 thousandths and the specs call for 2-5 thousandths. I see that the rear output calls for 2-7 inch pounds of turning resistance and was wondering how important is it for the front to have end play while it has less than 1 inch pound of turning resistance? I can order a 2 thousandths shim if need be and thought I would get some input. Thanks, Ken

I have seen preload recommended instead of end play, even higher than what you have.

You would be ok with .001" or you could even take out another .003" for preload and be good.
