Which distibutor would you use on a 347 stroker, brand and mechanical or vacuum advance ? I also have some clearance issue with my current vacuum advance distributor and my Explorer serpentine bracket.

in most cases you want a dizzy that has both. vacuum advance helps with part throttle driving. I think there are a few new dizzys that have programable advances and still hook up to a vacuum source but are a much smaller package.

Thanks. Unless I missed something I have not read about others having clearance issues with their distributor and Explorer brackets.

You should be able to clock the distributor so it clears the bracket.

Not sure just how much clearance that you will have, but it's usually the TFI equipped EFI engine distributors that have the clearance issue with Explorer serp setups.
The Explorer didn't use a distributor, so there was no TFI module sticking out to worry about.

And notching the aluminum bracket does not cause any problems that I remember hearing about. Lots of us have done it when needed and not had any issues.

That said, a couple of the distributor's like broncnaz mentioned would be the Mallory E-Fire and Max-Fire distributors. They still use a vacuum signal, but you simply plug the hose into a port on the bottom of the distributor that feeds a MAP sensor inside. It's all computer controlled from inside the distributor body. Very clean and cool.

Here's the ready-to-run MSD distributor. Three wire hookup, needs external coil but no external module.

I prefer a dura spark.. simple cheap and parts can be found most anywhere.
