EFI idle issue- could bad IAB make idle 2800rpm?

Not in my experience. The one on Frank's truck works perfectly backward.

mine did not work inverted, always high idle, now its in correctly ( added the adjustable IAC spacer) but jammed up against the intake but it works.
someday I will fix it, I have straight plug IAC sitting here and I also had new brackets made up for the BC throttle linkage to move the IAC further out.

Only going off my own personal experiences.
the IAB on my cobra boat 5.0 is inverted for clearance purposes but has an adapter plate to redirect the flow the proper direction. This, as well as idle issues on my last conversion where I mistakenly installed the IAB backwards, leads me to believe they are directional.

I agree that they're designed to be directional. But he drives that truck every day (except right now since he wrecked it), and it idles perfectly. The original JY IAC worked for a few thousand miles, and the new Advance/MotorCraft one has been on there upside-down for ~10Kmi.

Well, I flipped mine back to normal, cleared my BC linkage no problem (why didn't I realize that before?). I do need extend my sensor wires though to connect them. However, with the IAC disconnected it does idle well now. Could be coincidence, as it will idle fine for a while and then jump up with the IAC the other way too sometimes. I do have the explorer TB, with a mustang TPS on it. Maybe that's why it clears throttle linkage. But I could swear that BC says to flip the IAC for their cable. ??
Tomorrow hopefully I'll get a chance to connect and test it. I want to drive this thing!

Maybe mine's just getting old? I also looked at Mustang sites and they talk about bad MAF meter's being the cause too. Hard for me to say, all my sensors are used. Something to be said for getting new sensors I guess...
Okay, I'm out to the garage to extend my IAC wires to test this out.

I keep mine unplugged anyway, I despise the hanging high idle when you shift gears or blip the throttle. Cant stand it.

Need to rig it up with a switch, so I get the fast idle at startup in winter, then I can switch it off when its warmed up.

Friend of mine has a 66 Impala with a light that stays on while the engine is cold, maybe I can use that with a relay to kill the IAC automaticle when it reaches op temp.

I've had a hanging idle issue (hangs at 2500 RPM before dropping to idle) since I put the Explorer motor in 5 years ago. While working through some other issues I may have solved the hanging idle issue. I'm sure it is not the correct way to fix the problem but so far so good. On the end of the IAB there is a little plug that covers an adjusting screw. I removed the plug and was able to fine tune the AIB to idle where I wanted it to and not hang open to long. It took a couple trys to get it just right, so it would start cold and idle up a little like it is supposed to. So far with almost 500 miles logged it is working great.

That's an interesting bit of info there. You should do some pics and a quickie write-up (yeah, I know, you just did!), with more details.

Please...

Alright so I finally got a chance to drive it to the rodeo tonight- ALL IS GOOD. Idle is back to normal, although I would like it to return to 700 right away instead of hanging high. At least in my case, orientation of IAC does seem to matter.
Thanks Phil and everyone else for the help. My punch list is getting shorter. Though I do need to add a transfer case rebuild to the list. The only piece of drivetrain I did not rebuild already. Oh well should have expected that.
Thanks again guys!

Took some picutes the other night. Going to fine tune my draft of what I did, what my idle was like prior to and after the adjustments. So far so good but I did have a little iusse the other night when it was quite cool out, sarting out driving it cold and it skipped. I have been having a problem with the engine skipping for a while so I just want to make sure it is not related to adjusting the IAB. Hopefull I can post some good news on Sunday.
