Got to buy a new distributer for a 351w going in my 66, wondering which is best to buy? A regular distributer and then put the conversion for electronic egnition in it or mallory has a distributor that already is electronic egnition all put together. Whats experiences have you had?? Primarly a street bronco..

Are you just trying to get rid of the points?
If so you can get a duraspark dizzy and an ignition module for around $100 at your local parts store.

X2 for Duraspark. Relatively cheap (used or remaned) and easy to install. Parts readily available at any auto parts store.

hei conversion works great. It cleans up the wiring. Only 1 wire to hook up ign. under hood. 2 wires if you run a tach. You can get a cheap one(pro comp) for about $100 or pay more for a good one like MSD or DUI. I had bad luck converting the stock dizzy with the pertronics. It would heat up and crossfire in traffic.

The built in coil is the HEI set-up. The coil is in the dist cap. Most the conversions have a 50,000 volt coil too.

I'm not sure about the other conversions but with the DUI you want to run a decent aftermarket oil pump shaft. The stock ones have incinsistant lengths and don't allow it to sit all the way down in the block. This happened on my 72 and had to buy an arp shaft. I've had the DUI on both trucks over 8 years with no problems.

There are a few ways you can do it, all depends how much you want to spend

Like the other guys said there is the duraspark dizzy and an ignition module, the DUI, Pertronix and MSD both make ready to run Distributors, and maybee a few others.

You can also get a MSD Pro Billitt Distributor, with the MSD box or a Crane Cams Dizzy with the Crane Box.

I run a MSD Dizzy and a MSD 6AL ignition box

Painless makes a nice loom for the Dura Spark conversion, it's $100 but it's nice having all new wiring/plugs. I tend to like using the Dura Spark because when you break down in the middle of nowhere you can still find the parts.
