Gas Mileage?

Ive got a '72 with uncut fenders, 2" lift (for power steering) and 30 inch mud terrain tires. I got 14 MPG a few weekends ago in the hill country of Texas (near Austin) and with 4 people in the car. I get closer to 15 regularly and with less weight and lower RPMS.

As seen on your other post, I get 10 on the freeway at usual LA-Orange County speeds (85 MPH), I get 7 in town and about 2 MPG when it's on the floor. I have a 408 Stroker, 4.11s, lots of lift, top on with a mondo roofrack, 33's (which are too small for it now) and a 28% Overdrive. I'm sure an adjustable metering block and slower freeway speeds would give me a little better mileage but probably not that noticeable.

If I treat it real nice and pet the dashboard while going uphill, I can get 12mpg out of it.

Its mostly stock, 302 auto.

I am lucky to get 8 or 9, and that's driving it easy. And my 351W likes the top shelf petrol, too. :(

I had heard that a 351W might actually get better gas mileage than a 302, but that obviously isn't the case, as evidenced by the mileage some of these guys with 302s are getting.

Of course, the 670cfm 4bbl probably doesn't help any. I have actually ordered the spring kit for my Holley in the hopes that I can keep those secondaries from kicking in so often.

Right now I have 33x12.50s on 15x12 wheels. I just bought some 15x8 wheels to put on it. Hopefully that will narrow my tires up a bit and help me eek out another mpg or two.

Stock 302, 3 1/2 lift, 33x12.5 tires....I get 10 and it dosnt matter if I am taking it easy or putting the foot in it. I was thinking of putting a 351W in to get better millage but according to replies on this thread, that may not be a good idea.

5.8 L, c-4, 3.50's, 35" tires = @9 mpg :'(

Need lower gears and who knows what else. I gotta do something or I can't afford to drive this thing.

How come I can get 10 mpg in my bronco, or I can tow it behind my f-350 crew cab, long bed with a big block & 4.10 gears and still get 10. These things should be getting good gas milage. What's the deal.

Indian Harbour Bch,
I get 10-12MPG. 302, 3spd (soon to be 4-spd) 3.5" lift, 35: tires, 3.50s in the axles

Note: Keep in mind for those who just upped they tire size. It will appear as if you are getting fewer MPGs because the bigger tires make the axles rotate slightly slower, reducing the speed of the speed-o-meter, but in actuallity, you are really going the same speed as before. If you take a GPS with you that will show you yer actuall speed.

So good news. you may actually get bettter milage than what you calculate

I get about 12-13 in mine, built 351w(400+hp), C4, 4.56's. I'm never in the throttle to move in town, and on the freeway cruising at 2800-3000 I'm in the "sweet spot" of the cam so very light on the go pedal.

I've progrssively put bigger and more powerful engines in the bronc (on my 3rd incuding the 302) and mpg has increased every time. The 302 got about 10 or so.

Now if I open it up and drive like an asshole, then it drops to about half of that ;)

That's why I will run a 4BT in about a year. 25-30 is about what everyone is getting running those in Scouts and I am sure at should be at least that good for the bronco. As for now, I am sure that the best case scenario I am getting is probably 10.
