X2 on replacing the bulb first. I think you will have to pull the steering wheel to be able to get to the screw that holds on the cover, I can't remember.

You have to pull the wheel but the bulb just twists out from there.

Crap. Had it confused with the 78 tilt ones. They are a non replaceable little bitty light bulb. Lol

To the OP, when your bulb was working, how bright was your gear indicator window? Reason I ask, I just went thru replacing my TS switch, bought a new gear indicator assembly, and the illumination that I get is horrible, as in pretty much nothing. My bulb is lit, but it gives like zero light to the gear indicator. If it is really dark outside, I can just barely see a tiny glow on the gear indicator needle. And I mean barely! Hacks me off every time, I put in a lot of electrical work and gear indicator illumination is awful!!!

I have a 76, and the bulb has zero effect on the PRNDL. I am thinking on replacing the indicator with the 1973 all clear version versus my 1974-77 clear top and black plastic bottom I bought at TOMs Bronco Parts. Seems like all the vendors indicate that the 74-77 Broncos require the black bottom. This makes no sense, light will not travel through the black opaque plastic.

I've got the same problem, can't see PRND21 at night. So will these fit our columns?

I am not sure. I asked wild horses and waiting a response.
I did get a call to toms bronco parts and they said the part I received was a bad batch. They said they had a problem with supplier painting over the clear area where the light would shine through. They are sending me a free replacement.

I will let you know when I get it

Well crap, I bought mine new from Toms a few months ago. So we are talking the clear piece marked PRND21? The bottom might be painted black, thus not letting light thru? I find that hard to believe, but I could check. Will have to take of the dang steering wheel again.....
