Headlight Help!!!

On my 1973, I have an issue of my headlights turning off while driving or idling. I turn the lights and and within a few minutes, they will "cut out" for 5-10 seconds and then come back on. This is continous and happens at random intervals whether the lights are on high or low beams. I just recently replaced both headlights but it still happens. The park light/turn signal and side marker lights do NOT cut out at all, only the headlights.

Hoping someone on here can help identify the culprit. I appreciate any feedback!!

Thermal breaker in your headlight switch may be getting tired. Headlight harness with relays is the way to go especially if you are running H4 Bulbs. All the parts houses sell them.

All of the above. It's your thermal breaker being overloaded, whether from an actual overload or just from old age weakening it.

The final cure is a relay harness, but you can get yourself home sometimes by getting under the hood and unplugging one of your headlights. It's not an optimal solution perhaps, but getting you back on the road without the on and off flashing is a win in my book.

The relay harness was an inexpensive solution for me. Also, check your grounds, mine had a little corrosion and it doesn't take much.

The relay harness was one of the first things I did to my Bronco. When I bought it and drove it home (PA to KS), the headlights were acting just as yours do; nay a problem since.
I purchased mine from LMC, p/n: 36-3580-F
I made a small bracket to mount the relays for easy access.

Hi, as mentioned, that is the common symptom of a failing headlight switch. The relay system will help the new headlight switch because it will stop all the current for the headlights from going through the switch. Good luck

Thanks all for the feedback/input! I have ordered a HD headlight harness w/ relay. Fingers crossed that will solve the problem!!
