I'm sure it helps get the bolts out if the rust isn't too bad. I only broke three. It didn't help to get the bushings apart, they were rusted solid. I used penetrating oil for a couple weeks before I attempted changing the mounts.

sawsall with long bimetal blades i think 8inch was perfect i cut right threw the bushing and all they just fell out. the advise about a fan was good aim it to blow the rubber smoke out of your face while cutting and dont be cheap about the blades i found changing them often really speeds up the process. safety glasses/gloves are mandatory. got to protect those eyes learned that from 2 eye doctor emerg visits. ;)

I won't crawl under my bronco without safety glasses on. Gotta save the eyes for hunting season.

Since I had the rear bumper off, I just feeded my trusty magnet tool, thru the center of the frame from the rear, and recover my bushing sleeve and my nut. No need to cut holes on the frame.;)

I found that the best way to remove those rusted sleeves was to first cut the body bushing vertically with a sawzall. I could then peel off the bushing leaving just the sleeve exposed. Then I got in there with the sawzall and was able to cut them horizontally. This way I didnt have any of that terrible smoke from the bushings.

i tried the magnet tool only to break it in the process. best thing to do is cover the hole and save yourself the trouble of going fishing. if all else fails try the magnet. if that fails you can order a new one or drill a hole.

Viperwolf1 Here's a tip for the front 4 mounts. If you can get the bolt out or even just broken out, then you can use a small (7/8 in outside diameter) hole saw up from the bottom center of the bushing. You only need to cut through the thin washer plate on the bottom then you can pull the lower rubber off. It's a lot faster than a sawsall.

I just got done removing my body bushing and this tip saved me a ton of time.
Thanks Viperwolf1.

Both of mine broke off and I tried to pound them out with the BFH to no avail. I then shot some PB Blaster and let it soak for about 20 minutes and then brought out the BFH again. One hit for each and they were out.

I hope mine are easier. I broke the back two right off. The front ones came out, but the ones on the front floor are rusted as are the two in the bed area.

I've cut four of those bastards here lately, what a PITA! If
You have to end up cutting it, home depot sells a blade called "diablo". I used the dewalt blades for a few of them, and the diablo cut through it in a third of the time. I used a new blade for every mount, but kept them for cutting other stuff.

Went through this exercise myself a couple of years back and instead of using a sawzall to cut the sleeves horizontally, I used a drill bit (can't remember the exact size but it was very snug) and driilled from the top down once the bolts were removed. The drill bit cuts through the sleeve and the plates separate. X3(or 4!) on taping the hole in the frame. I too had to fish for a sleeve and nut and learned an easy trick here on CB. Used a metal fish tape and ran a nylon cord from front to back through frame rail. I then attached an old garden hose to the cord and slowly pulled all the parts and other crap through the frame rail. Only bummer is that front and rear bumpers have to be off. Good luck and just be patient. One last piece of advice, do one frame rail at a time or you may have a bigger task on your hands.
