I Found out the transfer case is a Dana 20 but how do i find out what the front end is? there is a plate on it with a code but i cant seem to find any code info to let me know whats under this bronco. Also the drive shafts seem to have some play in them, is this common or should it have no play at all?

Thanks
Mike

Does the it have ball joints or king pins? If it has ball joints it is a dana 44, if it has king pins it is a dana 30

this may help you. i asked the same questions a few weeks back. and you shouldn't have any play in your shafts.... try to determine where the play is coming from, prob a worn u joint although the PO of mine didn't bother to lengthen the front shaft when he lifted the truck and needless to say there is a ton of play. #2 on my list of things to get done, right behind radius arm bushings (passenger side is gone!).

if u still cant tell post a pic, also back when i was looking at mine i looked at the differential, there is a slight difference in the housing, the 30 is more rounded while the 44 is hexagonal (i think hexagon is right), let me see if i can get some pics for you...
