I fixed the issue; want to post this just in case someone has a similar issue. I searched the forum and found a ton of good information that assisted in fixing the problem. (This forum is extremely helpful)
I went out to start my 77 up after sitting for two days and would not start. Just one click when I turned the key to crank her up.
Radio worked and lights came on.
I replaced the battery (optima yellow top) and this did not fix it.
I replaced the starter solenoid ($19 at local auto parts store) and it started up twice and then did not start the third time.
I swapped out the starter solenoid (thought it may be a faulty part) with another one and it started up twice and not the third time.
I looked at the cable that runs from the solenoid to the starter and it was bad. The rubber around the copper was cracked and falling off.
I replaced the cable (4 gauge, 24 inch $5 local auto parts store) and it starts up every time now.
I did not have to replace the starter, battery, or starter solenoid; all it was was the $5 cable from the starter solenoid to the starter.
I should have checked the cables first and replaced if needed.
Again, I just wanted to post this in case someone else has a similar issue.

Yep, learning the hard way!

Fortunately, I did not purchase and install the starter. This saved me some time.

Had very similar problem today. 69 Bronco was about 15 miles from home and would not start. Just the solenoid clicking. Had 12v from the battery to the other side solenoid(on the post). Assumed it was a bad starter. Yep I replaced it and the solenoid to be safe. Yep, it still did not start. Got a push to get it started and drove it home. It started right up. Came in thinking it has got to be a wire somewhere. Then read this post. Gonna go get a $5 wire in the morning. :p
