Review: LED headlight and taillight upgrades

only $170 total!

UNI-SHINE 7-Inch LED Headlights - DOT Approved, Hi/Lo Beam, Compatible with Jeep Wrangler, Chevy, and Miata - Plug and Play https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0796QHYSR/?tag=classicbroncos-20

Tonsya For 1967-1972 Ford... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CCH5NJWL/?tag=classicbroncos-20

The headlights could not have been easier to install, exactly like new oem bulbs. Has the 3 tabs just like OEM. The only difference, possible negative: the lens sticks out further from the headlight rings. Much brighter, look high quality, no halo or weird look really.

The taillights also went in pretty easy, the lenses are definitely thicker overall but the fit/finish is good. The wires to the “bulbs” are kinda small/weak looking. Really bright, clean look. Kind of a halo on the “tail”, fills in on “brake”, bright white for reverse. No weird blinking rate or anything so far.

Question:
a. When you did the headlight upgrade did you upgrade the wire harness using something like this: https://www.wildhorses4x4.com/night-lighter-66-79-ford-bronco-headlight-wiring-harness

b. Did the tail light upgrade require different undersash flashers?

Some people do, some people don’t.
Some people already have them, and some people end up adding them after LED swaps anyway, because the LEDs might flicker or act up occasionally.
It’s not because they are overdrawing current through the switch, but more likely because the existing wiring and switch are no longer acting like new components.
If those are 40 years old and more, the LEDs might be a little sensitive to fluctuations in voltage drops. Even with their fairly wide range of acceptable voltages.
So, as with so many things Bronco, “it depends“ comes into the equation.

I've got a set of those same headlights that I have only powered up in the garage. They look good enough I plan to power them up outside and see what the real beam pattern looks like. The cutoff might actually be acceptable. My concern is there looks to be a little more of a lower cutoff than I think there should be. And the high beam looks very narrow. Thus I really need to see what they really look like outside.
