Mass Confusion Build. After 2 1/2 years It started!!

Here is the official start of the build thread. Things have been speeding along and since I know just enough to be dangerous, and can really screw things up, dont be afraid to pipe in! I know how we all love pics so I will include as many as possible.

I got lots of parts from the po so I thought I was golden. Well, as you will soon see, I am not golden, but a nice rusty brown. Oh boy am in trouble with AAA.

More Mass Casualty Pics

Took the fenders off, or I mean, left them off. We had to throw them in the rear of the truck so they wouldn 't fly off the front since they weren't bolted on. The first time the Towtruck driver hit the brakes, it threw up radiator fluid all over the back of his truck. The radiator was also in the back seat. There had been significant patchwork done so this wasn't a surprise for me on the front inner fenders. Interesting gauge of steel used. think it must have been around 14 gauge. Also the looks like significant repair to the window cowl as there was fiberglass EVERYWHERE!

Gettin there.

I am getting intimate knowledge of my beloved EB and how not to do repairs. When I took off the window hinge, it had been "riveted" in to the window frame with the rivets half on the hinge! Can't believe that thing didn't fall off.
Also discovered why the drivers side was a little droopy. DS pan support was cracked into three separate places. Jacked up to straight, Tried to spot weld, but kept burning thru the rusty crossmember. I got one good weld on and that seemed to hold while I disassembled the rest of the firewall/doorpost. Looks like I need to add "new support" to the growing list of things to come.

yes, I have a new favorite tool. It is my wire brush one my grinder. I am getting quite good at nooks and crannies. I can't get rid of the camo fast enough. It's not even good camo. (maybe if you are trying to hide in a Picaso painting, maybe.)

I will definitely be attending BYOB and with my camera. There are alot of questionable "fixes" on this EB and important things missing. Example, when I was removing the the two bolts that hold the steering wheel I couldn't figure out what they were attached to. Looked and looked for a bracket, don't know if it disintegrated from rust or if there was nothing there in the first place. I simply don't know. After researching I now know there should have been a bracket welded to the cowling. Simply a mystery. Looking at other build threads, I see of alot of things that may be MIA, so I would like to get up close and personal.

Feel like I should wear a sandwich board with the beginning of my build thread on it!

Some more pics of the "Casualty". Kind of had to stop until I either built some temp supports. Or decide to tear it all apart. I am on a budget, and just spent some serious coin on more welding supplies, new sheet of 18 ga. Oh, new tires for the minivan, and the cess pool guy is coming by this week to get us emptied out. %) Last month it was a coolant leak in the minivan, and the frickin dishwasher repair. I would have tackled the Minivan myself, but it was up and underneath and very tight quarters. Even the mechanic complained about what a PITA it was! and it ain't like repairing my cherokee. Sorry, just venting. Here's the funny part....spent more on the dishwasher repair than the minivan.

Last two pics are of the window cowl. It was a mess and ended up sawzall'ing it out. Kept the good metal still in, in case i decide to do a patch repair. Thinking I should just go ahead and pop for the two panels from a vendor.

Just got back from Russ' place and picked up the doors and new radiator support. (Thanks Russ!) Hopefully he'll take his unbelievable EB to BYOB (hint hint in case you're reading this). Just so you guys know whenever I mention the PO it is not Russ (the guy I bought it from) but the guy he bought it from. It basically sat at his place untouched until he decided to get rid of it. Just wanted to clear that up.

It was in a Bronco Magazine Readers Rides a while back he said. I will find out what issue.

I should have snapped some. I told him about the build thread, said he thinks he is already signed up here. Said he was going to take a look at the build. He lives out in the boonies so he only has dial up. I can't even imagine....


It has a 2 inch body lift, 3.5 inch suspension, an amazing roll cage from Wild Horses, he has the roadster inserts in the doors, soft top, 37's (I think). He painted the outside, inside, with orange POR15. He was telling me how he went to a Jeep Jamboree and they made him take up the rear because of his PTO winch, and lockers and ended draggin' some guys stock jeep behind him after the Jeep died. Said he was dragging it over rocks, packing the grill with mud to get the guy out. That must have been hilarious. I asked him if he got pictures because the guys here LOVE seeing Broncos pulling Jeeps out of sticky situations. (Before Jeep owners bash me, I own a VERY reliable Cherokee, that I love, but not as much as my EB!);D
