more steps backwards in order to move forward!;D

Yesterday the engine was pulled with some much appreciated help from Art and his hoist. this was the last major thing to take apart on this build so now I can only move forward from this point.:p

time to get cleaning and reassembling!

Thanks! making headway, I think...
started pulling stuff off the motor today, at least it's keeping up with the theme of bolts coming out easy without breaking... even the exhaust manifold bolts popped right out.
though I am seeing some things that are starting me wondering... like the absence of exhaust manifold gaskets??? they didn't seem to be leaking. I did find a small crack on the end of one manifold as well.
and the oil sure was thick with some pretty good sludge in the bottom of the pan. now the truck did sit for years or decades at a time between brief periods of use, plus we know it spent some time being used in a very sandy dusty environment so that probably didn't help.

so after yesterday's findings I've decided to take it all the way. I'll either fully freshen this one up or consider just dropping in the one out of my 76. I've got time to ponder...

anyone know if ford numbered the connecting rods and their end caps from the factory? I found the one's in this motor already marked 1 through 8.

Wow that does surprise me. I know I had all the fluids (except rear differential) changed out when I first picked this up way back when.

Doesn't look too bad except for the crud in the head passages.

I thought you had... that goo was definitely circulating into the new oil, the oil filter was very heavy and took like 20 minutes for the oil to start draining out when left upside down!

A couple other surprises... looks like the motor has already been apart. a quick measure on the cylinder bores shows them at .030 over. and what looks to be dates on the clevite 77 bearings shows 7-85 on the rod bearings and 12-84 on the mains.
I've got it all appart now and loaded up to take to my shop tomorrow where I'll go over and inspect everything better then decide what to build. I kind of have a new plan forming in my head on what I'll build... we shall see.
