Looks nice Brian.

Some ideas if you like

Keeping it simple:
Small RV cam,
dual plane aluminum intake/holley or the stock manifold and 2100 or similar.
Upgraded ignition

Not keeping it as simple
Aluminum heads
FITech
Stroker (nice but reliabilty is sometimes questioned. You'll get arguments both ways here.)

Fuel injection. If it's not going to be too crazy, just go with any speed density. The computers are cheaper, and they work fine. If Carb, I know someone with a new Edelbrock 4 bbl intake and carb, that will be sold after the summer. I think he has some aluminum coated long tube headers too.

Ford Explorer based EFI.
The system is proven to work well.
Parts are common.
Support for the conversion is available here on CB.

Thanks for all the ideas, plenty of options to consider.

and while we're here, I completed another small step... assembled the front axle shafts today.
I utilized the full snap rings on these and it kind of sucks when you realize you forgot to slip the snap rings over the inner u joint shafts after you've already pressed the first cap in. glad I caught that before getting too far.

but.... no excuse for when I did it again on the second axle shaft!:p;D

here are some side by side shots of the old and the new.

more small steps... blasted and painted the spindles and caliper brackets. I think I have just about everything now to get this front end rolling.

buttoned up the front axle tonight, enough of it anyway to be able to put the wheels and tires on.

Must be hard to machine since you can't see what you are doing. I would say that no one would see any mistakes but best as I can tell you don't make them... ;D
