FireBronco got wrecked last year while in a deluge. No insurance claim was made due to knowing how long it would take, and thinking that it could be totaled. Taz and I got on it the next day and got it drivable in the next few weeks.
Fish were biting..

This is what I don't understand... how MANY Broncos get rear ended on a trail? How many get "T" boned in an intersection on a trail? How many get stolen on a trail? How many get in accidents with other cars like being sideswiped on a trail??? How many guys have a rear axle break on the highway and roll compared to wheeling and losing a rear axle and it just stops in 10 ft because you're doing 10mph? Yeah, you might get more pinstripes on the trail but you aren't going to have any of the daily examples like above occur on a trail run.

Besides, most everyone's pickup costs more than a $50-70K Bronco and everybody drives them off road here where I live.

COME ON guys, the odds of you having a huge insurance claim is much higher when driving it to town, mall crawling, car show, ANYtime you are on a road with other cars than if you're wandering about on a twin track road or going wheeling in the hills. This is why

Show me the # of claims on EB's on pavement compared to claims of Broncos not on pavement. I'll bet I put more miles on my Bronco in a month off road than about 30 typical mall crawler Broncos do in a year.-least the ones that I know that never drive them or let rain fall on them- and these aren't $100K +Broncos either.

Sorry for the rant and no offense intended but nobody looks at street vrs trail insurance data but the excuse that they are worth too much to drive doesn't make sense when comparing it to pavement miles and the other cars people own that are worth so much more than their Bronco.

Jeeps are cheaper but they are like driving any brand of white pickup, Sammi's tip over in a slight breeze off road and worse on the street trying to get to the trail. :)

Edit- let loose on this one didn't I? LOL
Amen!! I couldn’t even imagine not driving my Bronco offroad!

I picked my M5OD from a 1990's f250 so I think they should be fairly strong. Maybe no "John Force " smokey burnout strong, but good enough for a moderately driven Bronco. I really like mine.

What configuration of F250 had the M5OD? I've been following along with that gearbox and thought they were 1/2 ton issued.

It had the 302 in it. I was looking for a ZF5 and found the truck on Craigslist. I thought it would be a ZF5, so I took my tools and went to his place and pulled it out. At the time I wasn't familiar with what a ZF looked like and when I took it home and looked up the tag number, I realized it wasn't the ZF but the Mazda trans.

The 90's there was a "light duty" F250 offered for a year or two. It is more of the "heavy half" flavor. Half ton frame with a heavier spring package and higher GVW. Think of it as an F150 with a camper package. Later evolved into the F150 with the 7-lug wheels.

Yeah my son had one. '96 or '97. Had to replace it last year after he put 286,000 miles on it as a juvenile delinquent being chased by 3 city cop cars who had 8 previous auto thefts to his name couldn't take the corner at 1am & totalled both his cars in front of his house! Had this trans and it was smooth & worked great all this years.

Keep your hand from resting on the shifter & you aren't replacing the shifter forks every 75k.

Yeah, but if your Bronco was original I think you can buy almost every part for an EB from half a dozen Bronco parts houses across the US.

All electical is still avail at any parts store and most drivetrain stuff is still available at all parts houses.

Help me out here as I'm not seeing the advantage on parts somehow other than the jeep part you need might be a day or two quicker in delivery?

I agree 100% that I'd much rather smash a Jeep up than a Bronco tho! :)

I haven't tracked down every last little detail, but it wouldn't surprise me if you can build an all 'new' EB using no OEM parts. Granted, some of those parts are roughly equal to the OEM FIAT,.... er.. Jeep parts..... which is to say, carp! but you could do it.
